Experience New England as few have - hiking the highest peaks in Vermont and New Hampshire and biking country roads by pastoral farms amidst an explosion of autumn color. Pick blueberries and sample the local fare - cheddar cheese, maple syrup, apple cider... and Ben and Jerry's ice cream. Relax at day's end at some of the most charming inns that New England has to offer.
Your Itinerary Day 1: Northeast Kingdom Shuttle from Burlington to East Burke, stopping at the home of "the world's best cheddar cheese" along the way. Bike rolling hills and enjoy the beautiful views in this still undiscovered part of Vermont. (L/D). Day 2: Franconia Notch Follow an old bridal path as we ascend the ridge to the summit of Mt. Lafayette in New Hampshire's Franconia Range. Marvel at the 360-degree panorama of seemingly endless mountains as you obtain the summit. (B/L/D). Day 3: Mount Washington Hike through dense forest and scramble up Mt. Jefferson. Then experience the tundra as we walk along the spine of the Presidential Range to Mt. Washington, the tallest peak in the Northeast. The trip back down the mountain is aboard the coal burning, steam-powered cog railway, in operation since 1869. (B/L/D). Day 4: Stowe - Sterling Falls Stop at the Cold Hollow Cider Mill en route to Stowe, Vermont. Watch cider made the old fashioned way. Bike from the village past farms and pastures of grazing dairy cows to Sterling Valley Falls. Kick back at day's end in the comforts of a country manor. (B/L/D). Day 5: Mount Mansfield - Lamoille River After a shuttle to the top of Mt. Mansfield, Vermont's highest point, stroll along the ridge to Lake of the Clouds. Following lunch it's off to the gentle Lamoille River for an afternoon paddle alongside farmlands and ample offerings of autumn color. (B/L/D). Day 6: Stowe Pinnacle Sleep in or start your day with a leisurely horseback ride on the trails at our country estate. Our final hike takes us to Stowe Pinnacle with sweeping views of the Green Mountains and the village of Stowe below. Top off a great week with a tour and a scoop of "Chunky Monkey" at Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream Factory in Waterbury. (B/L).
