Discover why Panama's unspoiled beauty and Latin charm is the best kept secret in the Americas! Vast pristine rain forests teem with exotic wildlife, lush tropical beaches and enchanted highlands beg to be explored and a history rich in Spanish Conquistadors, swashbuckling pirates, and exotic Indian cultures combine to create an unforgettable paradise.
Your Itinerary Days 1-3: Panama City - Gatun Lake - Chagres River - Panama Canal Hike the Camino de Cruces in Soberania National Park through magnificent rainforests teeming with exotic wildlife and historic landmarks. Then board an expedition boat for a voyage across Gatun Lake, where we pass gigantic cargo ships. Along the way, we may spot iguanas, sloth, monkeys, crocodiles, ospreys and toucans on the rainforest-covered islands. The following day board a motorized dugout canoe for a trip up the Chagres River to an Embera indigenous village, where we're greeted with dancing and music. Then head to the Miraflores Locks on the Canal for a tour of these giant "water stairways". (B/L/D). Days 4-5: Rio Chiriqui - Baru Volcano - Boquete - Bocas del Toro A flight takes us to Chiriqui, the "breadbasket" of Panama, where an exciting whitewater rafting adventure beckons. Or choose to hike through the cloud forest on the flanks of Baru Volcano in search of the spectacular Resplendant Quetzal. Then explore Finca Lerida, a private coffee plantation and birding paradise. Drive across the Continental Divide to the small port city of Almirante where we transfer to a boat headed for Colon Island and Bocas del Toro town. (B/L/D). Days 6-8: Bastimentos Marine National Park A boat cruise takes us to a hike through the lowland rainforest on the enchanting Caiman Trail. A visit to the Ngobe Indian village of Salt Creek for lunch and a snorkel along coral reefs where we see a stunning rainbow of tropical fish complete the day. Drive to gorgeous Boca del Drago beach the next morning and swim and snorkel among the coral reefs and mangrove islands. Fly back to Panama City and a stop at the Balboa handicraft market for some last minute shopping before departing the following day. (B/L/D). Trip Extensions: No tour would be complete without crossing the Panama Canal by ship. For the cultural buff, a trip to visit the Kuna Indians on the San Blas Islands is to experience, without a doubt, the best preserved of all of the indigenous cultures of the Americas. Contact us for details. Notes: Trip Fees Include: Lodging, transportation in Panama, airport/hotel transfers on scheduled arrival and departure dates, meals (breakfast day 2 to breakfast day 8), and a $25 contribution to Panama’s National Association for the Conservation of Nature (ANCON).
