Mt. Chomolhari, having one of the most beautiful peaks in East Himalayas, stands at a magnificent 7300 meters with age old frontier forts and sprawling yak pastures in its foreground a truly rewarding sight for determined trekers. In the course of the trek, one will have sojourned through several places rich in history in Paro, Thimphu and Punkha valley.
Tour Itinerary: Day 1: Arrival at New Jalpaiguri Railway Station, Bagdogra. Transfer to Phuntsholling (India/Bhutan border), processing for permits. Overnight at Phuntsholling. Includes: (L), (D). Day 2: After breakfast transfer to Paro (6.5 hrs/180 km). After lunch half day sightseeing at Paro and overnight at Paro. Includes: (B), (L), (D). Day 3: Today your trek begins from Drugyal Dzong and you will trek up to 16 km to Shana a walk of 5-6 hrs. The path leads down to Pa Chu River and runs on the left side passing villages and scattered farmlands. Finally you will reach camp side known as Shana Zam situated at an altitude of 2800m. Overnight at Shana. Includes: (B), (L), (D). Day 4: Your next destination is Soi Thangthangkha, situated at an altitude of 3600 m, lying at a walking distance of 22 km from Shana (takes 8/9 hrs). The trail is smooth and gradual, without any steep climbs, and passes through dense forest of oak, pine and spruce. The campsite is situated at the left bank of the river near to the two stone made shelter. Overnight at Camp. Includes: (B), (L), (D). Day 5: Trek 12 km walking distance to Jangothang situated at an altitude of 4050 m (4/5 hrs). The path ascends for a while till it reaches the army camp, after a walk of another 1km you will reach a village called Jampu situated towards north. From this village you can enjoy the stunning view of snow capped Rocky Mountains. Occasionally you will encounter the houses of the Yak herders, before reaching the ruins of the old fort Jangothang, having a community hall. Overnight at Camp. Includes: (B), (L), (D). Day 6: You are free to explore the land of Yak or trek up to Lake Tsophu filled with giant rainbow trots, for fishing else you can walk to a view point resting at an altitude of 5250 m, offering a magnificent view of Mt. Chomolhari and Mt. Kungphu. Overnight at Camp. Includes: (B), (L), (D). Day 7: The next destination is Dhumzo. Situated at a distance of 18 km and takes 6/7 hrs crossing through a pass called Bhont La Dhumzo lies at an altitude of 4900m. The place offers a beautiful view of Mt. Chomolhari, Mt. Kungphu and Mt. Jichu Drake from the two lakes and surrounding landscape. Before reaching the camp, the Soi Yaksa village and a bridge can be seen. Overnight at Camp. Includes: (B), (L), (D). Day 8: Thombu Shong will be your next destination. The distance can be covered in about 5-6 hrs walk. In this phrase of your trek you will come across lots of scenic beauty in and around the valley. The views of Chomolhari and Jichu Drake can be seen in ever beautifully from Thombu La Pass situated at an altitude of 4520 m. The camp on the valley lies after a steady downhill ascend. Overnight at Camp. Includes: (B), (L), (D). Day 9: At the end of our north bound trekking, we will resume onward trekking down to Shana Zam, the first part will be a fascinating walk along the ridges, which will give you a glance of the icy caps of Chomolhari mountain. The 15 km long trek, which takes 5-6 hrs time, ends in a camp side at Shana. Includes: (B), (L), (D). Day 10: You will be received at Drugyal Dzong and will be transferred to hotel at Paro. Evening free at your disposal. Overnight at Hotel. Includes: (B), (L), (D). Day 11: Early in the morning after breakfast your will be transferred to Phuntsholling. Evening free at your disposal, overnight at Hotel. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
