On this special culinary and cooking tour of Spain you will be based in Aldan (Cangas), a small fishing village on the Atlantic coast of Galicia, Spain in the area called the Rias Baixas (Low Estuaries or Bays). You will get the chance to learn in-depth about the gastronomy of Galicia by cooking side-by-side with a Galician woman who owns/runs the small Charming Country Manor you will be staying at for the trip. Over the year Aurea has been handed down many traditional coastal cooking secrets of Galicia, which she will share with her guest on their cooking holiday in Galicia.

In between the cooking & culinary activities you will get a chance to stroll along the ports of small fishing villages and enjoy exclusive visits to various wineries making the highly acclaimed Galician Coastal Cooking, Food & Wine Tour Spain, Mussels of Galicia, Albarino white wines of the D.O. Rias Baixas. We will also dine in a few hand-picked restaurant with a mix of local flavors... from new young chefs like Xosé Cannas of Pepe Vieira offering creative dishes based on fine products of the sea, to traditional small fishermen's taverns right on the docks offering an abundance of fresh seafood (Spider Crab, Bay Prawns, Lobster, etc.) caught just that morning and served in handmade wicker baskets right on the table for everyone to dig in and enjoy this delectable “finger-food”.

Your Itinerary

Day 1: Santiago - Aldan (30 km from Vigo on the Rias Baixas Atlantic Coast)

Arrival to Santiago De Compostela the end of the Pilgrims' way and the capital of Galicia. Your private driver/guide will meet & greet you at the airport or train station depending which way you arrive. Then we will take a short walk through the old quarter of Santiago and visit of the Pilgrimage Cathedral. Before leaving Santiago we will stop for a "Welcome drink and pincho" (small appetizer) in a vinoteca-bar. Transfer by highway to the costal village of Aldan (Cangas) on the Peninsula of O Morrazo in the Rias Baixas (Low Estuaries or Bays) where you will be based in a Charming Manor House for this short-break cooking holiday. Some free time to get settled in the house before dinner. Tonight you will have an excellent introduction to Galician Seafood by dining at a traditional small fishermen's taverns right on the docks (spectacular sunsets during spring/summer!) of a nearby village offering an abundance of fresh seafood (Spider Crab, Bay Prawns, Lobster, etc...) caught just that morning and served in handmade wicker baskets right on the table for everyone to dig in and enjoy this delectable “finger-food”.
Overnight in Aldan. Include: (D);

Day 2: Aldan - Cambados (Albarino Wine Country) - La Toja Island - Sanxenxo - Combarro – Aldan

Breakfast. In the morning your driver/guide will take you to O Salnes sub-zone of the Denomination Of Origin Rias Baixas. Here we will make a special visit to an Albariño winery, Bodega Pazo De Señorans (Or similar winery). After this visit Cambados village, the heart of Albariño wine country. Walk around the Plaza de Fefiñanes and quaint streets of this noble village. Then we will follow along the coast crossing over to visit the La Toja Island, famous for it's Spa hotel. Here we stop to see an interesting Church decorated with Scallop shell (a cultural symbol of the Camino) on the exterior, as well there is a small boutique/store to purchase the famous La Toja bath soaps, etc.

Continuing one we passing by a Lanzada Beach with a small hermitage then stopping in Sanxenxo, a beach resort town overlooking the Ria Of Pontevedra. Here we will enjoy lunch at Pepe Vieira offering creative cuisine by Xosé Cannas a dynamic young Galician Chef who we will also talk with about movement of New Galician Modern Cuisine. After lunch we will visit the quaint fishing village of Combarro. Walk along the port promenade with Horreos (Stone Granaries) which hang over the bay. Then we will return to the Manor house in Aldan. Free time before your Galician cooking class. Aurea will show you how to make a 3-course menu based in fish and seafood in the fully-equipped kitchen of this country manor. Dinner will be based on what you have prepared accompanied by fine Albarino wines. Overnight in Aldan. Includes: (B), (L), (D);

Day 3: Aldan - Boat Ride To Ons or Cies Islands (The Archipelago Atlantic Islands National Park)

Breakfast. In the morning your driver/guide will take you to the small nearby village of Hio to see the Wayside Cross of Hio, the most famous in Galicia and built from on solid block of granite. Beside the cross is the Romanesque Church of San Andres (St. Andrews) we take a peek inside before leaving. Then we will heard to the take a catamaran boat ride over to the Ons Islands or Cies Islands to spend the day walking the islands and relaxing on the golden-sand beaches. If the weather does not permit us to go over to the islands then we will spend the day in Vigo City for some sight-seeing and free time for shopping in the centre.

Depending on the islands we visit or Vigo, lunch today could be either a picnic on the Cies Islands, a seafood restaurant on the Ons Islands or a Tapa tour in the old quarter of Vigo it will all depend on our daily agenda. Then we will return to the Manor house in Aldan after our day excursion. Free time before your Galician cooking class. Aurea will show you how to make another 3-course menu based in Fish and Seafood in the fully-equipped kitchen of this country manor. Dinner will be based on what you have prepared accompanied by fine Albarino wines.
We will say goodbye to our last meal together having a "Galician Queimada" while listing to the Galician folkloric verse the Conxuro. Overnight in Aldan. Includes: (B), (L), (D);

Day 4: Aldan - Pontevedra - Santiago De Compostela

Breakfast. In the morning your driver/guide will pick you up for the manor house. Depending on your departure time from Santiago we will see if a stop could be made to visit Pontevedra city's we visit the Archeology & Art Museum, also the old quarter. Then transfer by highway to Santiago's International Airport or if continuing on by other means of transportation you will be dropped off at the Train Station in Santiago city. Includes: (B).
