Rocky Mountain National Park and surrounding wilderness areas are the showstoppers of the West! Emerald lakes, wildflower meadows and old growth forests complement stunning 14,000' peaks. Get ready to mix it up with spectacular alpine hiking, off-the-beaten-path biking, world-class rock climbing and whitewater rafting or kayaking on the mighty Colorado River.
Inn Highlights: With spectacular views of the ski area, Winter Park Mountain Lodge comes complete with hot tubs, sauna and pool. Grand Lake Lodge, established in 1920, is listed on the National Historic Register and overlooks Grand Lake and Shadow Mountain Reservoir. The Baldpate Inn, built in 1917 and perched on Twin Sisters Mountain at 9,000 feet, is also on the National Register of Historic Places and boasts the world's largest key collection. Your Itinerary Day 1: Boulder - Winter Park Boulder is the starting point for our adventure, where we hike along the base of the Flatirons, jagged rock formations that rise abruptly from the plains. Then it's on to Winter Park, where we take our bikes up the ski lift and ride the many trails back down the mountain. (L/D). Day 2: Winter Park Enjoy another day of fat tire fun as we tackle the nationally acclaimed Winter Park Mountain Bike Trail System, with endless miles of designated trails and eight major loop trips. Relax in the lodge's pool and hot tubs at day's end. (B/L/D). Day 3: Colorado River Today we switch to paddle power as we hop into a raft or inflatable kayaks for our journey through Lower Gore Canyon on the mighty Colorado River. (B/L/D). Day 4: Rocky Mountain National Park - Estes Park Up early, we cross America's highest continuous roadway, Trail Ridge Road, with its stunning, top-of-the-world views. Here we hike through miniature wildflowers of the alpine tundra on the Old Ute Trail. The next two evenings are spent in the secluded Baldplate Inn outside Estes Park. (B/L/D). Day 5: Rocky Mountain National Park - Mary's Lake An afternoon hike to pristine Gem Lake follows a morning of introductory rock climbing. Under the care of expert guides, you learn the basics and proceed to do some climbs on the rocky ridge above Mary's Lake. (B/L/D). Day 6: Indian Peaks Wilderness - Boulder Trace a necklace of sapphire lakes and waterfalls within Indian Peaks Wilderness as we head to majestic Lake Isabelle at the foot of Arapahoe Glacier. We then conclude our Rocky Mountain adventure back in beautiful Boulder. (B/L).
