The Kenai is Alaska distilled. Tundra-clad mountains, tidewater glaciers, mist-shrouded coastlines, primeval forests and enough wildlife to fill a dozen rolls of film. Come with us as we hike, raft, kayak, and bike this wilderness paradise, including a chance to visit Alaska's Kingdom of the Grizzlies, awesome Katmai National Park.
Inn Highlights: The Windsong Lodge is located in a glorious glacial valley in a secluded forested setting near the banks of the Resurrection River. Also set on the banks of their namesake river, the Kenai Riverside Cabins are handcrafted and full of rugged Alaskan charm. Land's End Resort enjoys a spectacular location on the water at the tip of the Homer Spit on the shores of Kachemak Bay with 180-degree views of the Kenai Mountain Range and its glaciers. Your Itinerary Days 1-2: Seward - Kenai Fjords National Park After meeting in Anchorage, we shuttle to Seward on the Kenai Peninsula for a picturesque hike to the Harding Icefield, the birthplace of many glaciers of the Kenai Peninsula. The following day we enjoy a wildlife cruise and introduction to sea kayaking in beautiful Resurrection Bay. We are rewarded for our efforts with an Alaskan salmon bake before returning to Seward. (B/L/D). Days 3-4: Kenai National Wildlife Refuge - Chugach National Forest Today we tackle one of the mountain biking gems in the Chugach National Forest. A wonderful trail winds up to a pristine alpine lake, allowing for a memorable downhill ride back to the trailhead. The following morning we head out for a scenic float on the world-renowned Kenai River where we may encounter wildlife of both two- and four-legged variety as Alaskan salmon make their way up river. On our way to Homer, a short hike gives us a chance to stretch our legs and gain an overlook of the area we have enjoyed for these two days. (B/L/D). Day 5: Kachemak Bay State Park or Katmai National Park. Today we cruise across gorgeous Kachemak Bay to Kachemak Bay State Park, a roadless preserve where we hike through alder-covered glacial flats to the face of Grewingk Glacier and its namesake lake. A hand tram crossing of rushing Grewingk Creek adds to the adventure. Or choose to visit the home of Alaska's giant coastal grizzlies, Katmai National Park. Following a stunning flight across Cook Inlet, we watch these awesome predators as they prowl Katmai's lakes and streams in search of the legendary runs of spawning salmon. (B/L/D). Day 6: Girdwood In the morning we begin the transfer back to Anchorage, passing through the heart of the Kenai Peninsula. As we drive we reflect on our week's experiences, committing them to memory. Before arriving in Anchorage, we have time for a hike in another part of the Chugach National Forest on the Winner Creek Trail. This hike takes us through part of the northernmost rainforest in North America. After a thrilling conclusion to the hike on the aerial hand-tram, we continue on to Anchorage where we say goodbye to our newfound friends. (B/L). Denali Extension: 5 days/4 nights in magnificent Denali National Park; scenic train journey, luxurious backcountry lodge, grizzlies, moose, caribou, and glorious Mt. McKinley. Contact us for details!
