Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Pickup in Whitehorse or Haines, Alaska. Check in, welcome drink and lunch at the lodge. Short hike to the nearby beaver pond and rock glacier. Day 2: After you've enjoyed our famous northern breakfast buffet we visit the Kluane National Park Visitor Center in Haines Junction. We then travel by 4 x 4 truck into the Alsek Valley. When the bush road ends, we hike deeper into the wilderness, along the only major river valley flowing from the Yukon to the Pacific Ocean. Over the previous four hundred years several major ice flows have spilled out of the ice field ranges to intersect and dam off the Alsek River, obstructing its flow to the ocean. The lakes that were created left their marks with fresh-looking driftwood and sandy beaches that rise from the floor of the valley to a height of 300 feet. The Alsek Valley is also our favorite spot to watch for grizzly bear and dall sheep. Day 3: After a scenic boat tour on Kathleen Lake we hike up to King's Throne to enjoy one of the most spectacular views deep into Kluane National Park. Day 4: On the way to the Chilkat Pass (by van) we visit a traditional native village with it's famous salmon trap and the impressive "Million Dollar Falls". When we reach the pass we do some alpine trekking through the coastal mountains. Day 5: We travel by van to Sheep Mountain and the Slims River Valley. Here you will have excellent opportunities to watch wildlife during our hike to Sheep Creek mining camp. Day 6: Nature walk with a park naturalist. We follow the Auriol trail through a pleasant spruce forest with occasional open areas that provide good views of the surrounding mountains. There's plenty of wildlife viewing, bird watching, photography and study of fauna and flora. Day 7: After breakfast we bring you back to Whitehorse or Haines, Alaska. Home departure.
