Idaho's Main Salmon River trip has long been one of our favorite whitewater rafting trips. Whether you are a novice river runner or an experienced white water enthusiast, you’ll be enchanted by the beauty of the rugged canyon, the comfort of the large sandy beaches, the excitement of the rapids, and the history of the tough men and women who lived in this remote wilderness. It’s rough and wild country, but you’ll find the Salmon has a special beauty and magic, and a river trip with us is the perfect way to experience it. We’ll take time to hike, fish, explore historic cabins, and soak in the natural hot springs. There's rappelling, too, for those looking for a challenge. The refreshing waters and inviting beaches are great for swimming and relaxing in the sun.
Day before the trip: Arrive in Salmon, Idaho. We’ll meet in Salmon the evening before the trip. Flights from Boise to Salmon are available through Salmon Air Taxi. We will make reservations for you at the Stagecoach Inn and you can pay for them when you arrive. We’ll get together in the evening to hand out river gear and answer any last minute questions about the trip.
Day 1: We’ll meet at about 8am and drive two hours to the put-in. When we reach the river, we’ll rig the boats and put on the water. Soon everyone will start getting into the flow of the trip. We’ll stop for lunch on a sandy beach, and later look at some Native American pictographs. Camp on the beach and eat a delicious dinner around the campfire.
Day 2 - Day 5: We like to keep our trips flexible and choose activities that suit each group. There will be opportunities to hike, fish, explore homesteads, soak in a hot springs, relax around camp, and even try rock climbing and rappelling. Generally, we are on the water for about 2 to 5 hours a day.
Day 6: We’ll have a quite float with one or two good rapids, eat lunch on the river and then on to the take out. We provide van transportation to McCall, Idaho and a short flight from McCall to Boise. We will make reservations for you at the Best Western Vista in Boise and you can pay when you arrive.
