We started our Main Salmon River canoe and kayak trip several years ago and it has quickly become a guest and guide favorite. We spend seven days on the Salmon, with rafts along to carry the gear and expert instructors to give you all the help you want. We've added a day to our normal Salmon River trip to give us more time to scout rapids and play on the good surf waves. Our trip is the last week in August when the water is warm and the rapids are fun but not too pushy.
The Salmon is a class III river at August flow levels, and there is plenty of recovery time after each rapid. The rapids have some big waves and holes, but the lines are not complicated and there aren't many rocks to worry about. All in all the Salmon is the perfect river for anyone interested in expanding their paddling experience. If you haven't ever canoed or kayaked before, come out several days early and spend some time with one of our instructors on flat water and you will be ready to go. Our crew for this trip is mostly experienced guides and kayakers. We all have many trips down the Salmon under our belts, but we are novice canoeists. This open boat trip is supposed to add some spice to a river we’ve seen many times, but I’m hopeful Clark’s words won’t turn out to be prophetic. Notes: Price: $1,600 for seven days. Includes instruction and boat rental.
