The Middle Fork of the Flathead is one of the unknown gems of whitewater rafting. It's Montana whitewater rafting at its best. Only one other outfitters is allowed to run this wilderness section of the river, and because the only access is by plane or trail the Middle Fork is a place where you can still enjoy a true wilderness experience. Our 5-day Montana white water rafting trip begins with a breathtaking flight into Schafer Meadows, a backcountry airstrip nestled in the middle of the Great Bear Wilderness. We'll put the boats in the water here and enjoy several miles of scenic floating before the river picks up the pace and we enter the first rapids. The Middle Fork has an average gradient of about 35ft/mile, which means we get lots of great class III and IV rapids. We'll have oar boats, paddle boats and inflatable kayaks along so you can choose your excitement level.
Your Itinerary Day before the trip: Arrive in Kalispell, MT. In the evening, we’ll get together to hand out gear and answer any last minute questions. Day 1: We’ll get an early start for our flights to Schaefer Meadows. The first few miles are a slow warm up before lunch. After lunch, we’ll be in the Three Forks Series of rapids, miles of pretty continuous class III and IV whitewater. Day 2 - Day 4: Our trips are very flexible so that each one is tailored to the group. There will be time for hiking, fishing, looking for wildlife, floating casually, running rapids, and most anything else you can think up. Day 5: The last day brings us to the second big stretch of whitewater, the Spruce Park Gorge. We’ll have several miles of good class III to V water before lunch. After the gorge we’ll have lunch, then a beautiful float down to the takeout. The drive back to Kalispell takes a little over an hour. Notes: Price: $1,350.00
