Hiking and Biking: Block Island has 32 miles of nature trails great for hiking and biking. Each guest has her own beach cruiser bicycle to use throughout the week. Depending on your surf schedule a guided tour will take place in the morning after yoga or late afternoon, before dinner. We ride our bikes to the trailheads and hike the varied terrains, around the freshwater ponds, along the beautiful sand dunes, adoring Block Islands unique community of flora and breathtaking landscapes. A guided kayak tour through the Great Salt Pond is just another option for exploring the many wonders of this island. New Shoreham, where the Sol Sessions house is located, is a 19th century style town with all the amenities of today. There is a great selection of hip shops offering cool clothes, antiques, art, books, local crafts, housewares, jewelry, gifts and more. There are also tons of restaurants, ice-cream/fudge shops, cafes, bars, night clubs, a health food/grocery market and an old school movie theatre with the latest flicks. If the weather or waves don’t cooperate there is still plenty to do on Block Island.
Cuisine: Three full home cooked meals are prepared for you each day. Breakfast is a mix of fruits, granola, yogurt and a warm entree such as my Mom’s famous breakfast bakes. Lunch is served either at the beach or house and varies from chicken Caesar salads with a side of soup or sandwiches made on fresh baked bread. After the beach, a refreshing lemonade and 4pm snack awaits you at the house. Dinner is served at 7pm, which varies, from fresh fish, to lasagna to BBQ’s and is always finished off with dessert such as warm brownies and homemade ice cream or fresh fruit sorbets. Last year the guests put in many requests for a Sol Sessions Cookbook, which is now available for attending campers. The final evening will be a traditional New England lobster cook-out on the beach. Local lobster, corn, potatoes, and tomato salad never tastes better then with your feet in the sand and a warm ocean breeze in the air. We cap off the evening with a bonfire and lots of laughs from the week past.
