Flowing out from the 1.1 million acre Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness Area, the Selway River is the third largest river in the lower 48 states. We offer whitewater rafting trips on the last twenty miles of the Selway River, from Selway Falls to the river's confluence with the Lochsa.
This corner of Idaho is unique because it includes a temperate rainforest. There are plants found here that are also found on the Olympic Peninsula, but nowhere else. Our lower Selway float trip takes you through this magical land, a forest thick with cedar, fir and larch. Along the banks are emerald ferns, spongy mosses, huckleberries and mountain spray. As you paddle, you are likely to see osprey, bald eagles, waterfowl and perhaps a playful river otter along the way. Our professional interpretive guides will teach you about the Nez Perce, the original inhabitants of this land. Traditionally these were rich fishing waters and you can still see salmon jumping at Selway falls early in the summer. You have the choice of rafting or paddling your own sit-on-top kayak. Your rafting or kayaking adventure begins and ends at our River Dance Lodge, Idaho's Outdoor Adventure Resort, ideally situated along the banks of the Clearwater River. Surrounded by spectacular Rocky Mountain scenery and forests of leafy cedar and gargantuan white pine, River Dance Lodge is the perfect all-inclusive vacation resort. At the Resort you may stay in beautiful handcrafted log cabins or camp in our camping area. Casual dining is available at the Syringa Café where you'll find great food, a delicious wine list, microbrews on tap and a friendly, hospitable staff. The Resort is an ideal base for other exploration of the area including the Lewis and Clark Trail, Selway Falls, and an extensive trail system in the nearby National Forest lands. Notes:
