Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrive in the colonial port city of Veracruz. You’ll be met by Anna and the friendly, highly experienced staff of Esprit Rafting. We’ll stay overnight at the Hotel Imperial, one of the oldest hotels in Veracruz, situated right in the heart of the Zocalo, where we can have a few drinks at the outdoor café and enjoy the nightlife. Day 2: After breakfast we’ll head out of town through the foothills of the enchanting Sierra Madre Orientales, to the village of Jalcomulco. This small village, situated in the heart of the Antigua river valley, has lots of local flavor to share! We’ll get everyone settled at Aventuras Sin Limites, a local, family-owned rafting base camp. Once everyone is outfitted in boats and gear, we’ll eat some lunch, and then head to the pool for some roll practice! The afternoon will be spent in the pool working on the roll and basic paddle strokes. After the pool session you’re free to walk around and explore this amazing village before sitting down to some incredibly delicious Mexican food. Day 3: We’ll greet our first morning in Jalcomulco with a yoga class to warm up the body and relax the mind. After yoga, we’re served a delicious Mexican breakfast before heading down to the river! Today we’ll be playing and learning on a flatwater stretch just below the last rapids on the Pescados section of river near town. We’ll spend time on strokes, eddies, and practice some moving water rolls, getting ourselves ready for our first river trip! In the late afternoon we’ll head out on a half-hour hike to a natural swimming hole where we can swim, play on the rope swing and take a look at an ancient rock carving. Dinner will be served a la Mexicana tonight at our friend Porfirio’s house! Day 4: Another yoga morning will prepare us for our first river trip! We’ll be running a friendly section of the Antigua River between the towns of Apazapan and Coexhala. The focus today is to continue to develop a strong foundation in the basics of strokes, eddies and the moving water roll, all while enjoying the beautiful scenery of the Antigua river! Tonight, Gabriel Mendez a well-known local and old friend will cook fresh pizza for us in his very own pizza oven. Day 5: We begin the day with an invigorating yoga session and breakfast, then head out for our second day on the Antigua River. Depending on the skill level and confidence of the group, we may add a few rapids to our river run! Tonight we get to experience a very special native tradition called a Temascal. The Temascal is the Aztec version of a Native Sweat Lodge. We’ll leave feeling cleansed, relaxed and blissful. Day 6: Yoga and breakfast start the day. Today we hit one of the most beautiful rivers on the planet! The Actopan River is known for its crystal clear aquamarine water that flows out of a natural spring. We’ll put-in at a restaurant at the edge of the river, eat lunch on the way and finish at another restaurant where we’ll enjoy a delicious dinner! This river has great eddies and rapids to work on our river running skills! Day 7: This morning we return to the Actopan for the grand finale of the trip! There is a very fun and friendly 20 ft waterfall at the beginning of the river and, yes, beginners can run it!! Those of you ready to take on the adventure can run the waterfall once, twice or many more times to experience the thrill! From here we’ll run the rest of the river, then head back to the Zocalo in Veracruz where we’ll spend the night before heading out the next day. Congratulations! You’re on your way to being a skilled whitewater kayaker! Day 8: Depart for Veracruz airport to say our farewells. Notes: The cost includes:
