Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival and transfer hotel. Day 2: Travel Kinshasa - Matadi - Kisantu. Visit of the botanical garden. Mbanza Gungu, visit marketplace and old colonial houses. Matadi is a great harbour accessible to ocean-going vessels, the major port that links Congo to the rest of the world. This city, perched on hills gazing down at the deepest Congo river gorges, blends in with its rocky background. For a panorama of the city, climb up to the Belvédère, via narrow, rocky streets. Here the city, the river, and the hills stretch out at your feet. The Mama Mobutu market is one of Congo’s most bustling and picturesque. Built on seven different levels, it flaunts the fabulous agricultural riches of the Mayumbe. At the foot of Peak Cambier we visit artisan brick-yards. Day 3: Travel Matadi, Inga, Boma. Inga - Africa’s mightiest dam with an enormous hydroelectric potential. Boma is the second port of Congo, after Matadi. Congo’s first church, dating from 1890, was built here, on Saint esprit mountain. This is a small metal structure whose prefabricated parts were brought in by ship. In the port area stands Stanley´s famous baobab tree, so-called because the noted explorer supposedly spent his first night in Boma concealed in the hollow trunk of this mastodon. Day 4: Ferry Boma - Moanda. Day 5: Moanda and surrounding. Moanda is a delightful seaside resort with a venerable lighthouse, and gobs of sand. Moanda is situated at 10 km from Banana, 14 km from Nsiamfumu, 36 km from the border of Angola (Kabinda), 117 km from Borna, 242 km from Matadi and 594 km from Kinshasa. Moanda, the capital of Bas-Congo, (50 000 inhabitants), is not too built up. Its various districts are rimmed by thick clusters of reeds and mangroves watered by the Tonde River. Tonde-Plage, 8 km to the north, can be reached via a short trip by boat or car. This is a sandy inlet at the river’s mouth, where mangroves grow. It’s a resort for both saltwater and freshwater bathing, swimming, boating, and deep-sea fishing for tarpon, barracuda, and groupers. Day 6: Flight Moanda - Kinshasa. Day 7: Transfer to airport. Departure. Notes:
