* Day 1
Arrival in Santo Domingo Airport (SDQ) and transfer by minivan to your Hotel in the region of Barahona (3 Hours). Stay in Hotel.
* Day 2 - Full day Tour to the Enriquillo Lake.
We will start early morning from your hotel and we will drive all the way West through the Independencia region to the Enriquillo Lake located 30 meters below sea level and surrounded by 2400 metres high mountains!
Once on the shore of the lake we will take a 3 hours boat tour to discover this 200 Km2 lake which is the largest natural world reserve of American crocodiles. Within the mangroves, we will observe the American crocodiles surrounded by migrating birds such as red flamingos, aigrettes, blue herons and spoon birds. We will step off the boat on the Island Cabritos National Park in the center of the lake and take a little walk to observe the endemic fauna and flora.
In the middle of an amazing cactus trees forest (more than 100 endemic types), we can observe colibris, iguanas, scorpions and spiders. We will have lunch next to a natural sulphate swimming pool which has perfect water for skincare.
In the afternoon, we will visit an authentic Tainos cave with original paintings. We will end up the day by the visit of a typical market on the Haitian border in the village of Malpasse.
Time to get back to your hotel and rest.
* Day 3 - Visit of the unique-in-the-world Larimar blue stone mine.
In the morning we’ll get on a Safari Truck, necessary to access the Larimar mine which is 1 hour away on a dirty road. On the way up to the mine we will make several stops to observe the vegetation and the wonderful panoramic view over the Caribbean Sea.
Once we arrive at the mine, we will meet up with the workers who will explain you (with the help of your guide) the story of this beautiful world unique blue stone. We will get inside small tunnels to reach the place where workers actually take out the Larimar from the rocks. If you whish you will be invited to perform the work as well and get your own Larimar.
Otherwise you can make a deal with one of the several resellers and buy wonderful Larimar stone at the cheapest price on the Island!
Back on the Safari truck we will go back to have lunch in the village of Los Patos in a small typical restaurant in between the shortest river of the Caribbean (only 200 meters long) and the sea.
In the afternoon, we will visit the wonderful beach of San Rafael where the river meets with the sea forming beautiful natural swimming pools.
After a nice swim, we will go to the village of Bahoruco to an authentic Larimar workshop. First you guide will explain you how to perform the work to process your stone from the morning into a customized jewellery. Then each participants will be invited to workout his own stone! End of the day, back to the hotel to rest.
* Day 4
Day free at the hotel. Optional full day Tour Laguna Oviedo
Half day or full day trekking in the mountain Sierra de bahoruco.
* Day 5 - Full day tour in the cloud forest of Cachote.
Once again we will get on the Safari truck to climb up the mountain to Cachote located at 1400 meters above sea level. We will make several stops on the way to observe the great variety of the agriculture in the mountain Sierra de Bahoruco (coffee, cacao, coconut, mangoes, papaya and many other tropical fruits).
At 1000 meters high, on the entrance of the National Park Sierra de bahorcuo, we will stop at the ecological mirador of Cachote from where you can observe the river of Nizaito, the beach of Paraiso and the mountains of Polo.
We will step off the truck at 1400 meters high and we will walk during 45 minutes to reach the village of Cachote. In the middle of the cloud forest your guide will explain you the several endemic plants we will see on the way and the use of each of them. Some are used in medicine or cosmetology, other are used for Haitian voodoo.
After this nice walk we will arrive in the village of Cachote where we will meet up with the local communities. We will have lunch in a nice and typical wooden house made of pine tree and then we will go back down with the truck to the ecological ‘Rancho Platon’ located next to the Nizaito river. Time for a swim? You can enjoy the several natural river swimming pools or get under the beautiful waterfall.
After this refreshing stop, we will get back to the hotel.
* Day 6 - Eagle beach, the most beautiful white sand beach of the Caribbean.
In the morning we will take the road south to the Jaragua Park.
On the way we will make a stop at Los Patos to visit an authentic Tainos Cave with hundreds of bats flying around. In total scientists have identified 7 types of bats. Inside the cave we can observe several wall paintings. We will continue the road toward south crossing the Jaragua Park with a very arid vegetation of cactus.
At the end of the road, we will arrive in the village of La Cueva, where a small community of fishermen live inside real caves. There we will take a boat for 45 minutes to reach Bahia de Las Aguilas (Eagle Bay) the most beautiful beach of the Caribbean. Discover this paradise of fishermen and lovers of white sand beach and crystal water. With a length of more than 5 miles, this bay is entirely natural and totally unspoiled. We will have lunch on the beach and enjoy this marvellous place during the entire afternoon. If you whish to discover underwater world, our guide can take you for a short snorkelling tour to see Manta Ray, sea stars, and many other colourful fishes from the Caribbean Sea. Late afternoon, we will hit back to your hotel first by boat and then by bus.
* Day 7
Already time to leave!
