Arrival in Santo Domingo Airport (SDQ) and transfer by minivan to your Hotel in the region of Barahona (3 Hours).Stay in Hotel.
* Day 2 - The coffee trail, 6 hours walking time (+700 highest point).
Short transfer by bus from your Hotel.
We will start this trail from the beach of Paraiso and we will first climb the mountain ‘Café de Las Mujeres’ facing Paraiso where we can observe the great variety of the agriculture in the Sierra de Bahoruco: mango, pineapple, papaya, banana and of course the cacao tree.
During this trail, we will take time to stop in the isolated villages in order to taste tropical fruits and meet with those communities.
We will have lunch at the highest point of the trail, in the middle of a pine tree forest which is located in the village of Charco Blanco at 800 meters above sea level. In this village, a few families are in charge of the harvest and the drying of coffee beans which will be afterwards transported down to the village of Paraiso for sale.
The different communities of Dominicans and Haitians we meet on the way are always proud to show us their home and their way of living. We will go back down from the south side all the way to the canyon of the Nizaito River. This side of the mountain offers an amazing view over the village and the beach of Paraiso. At 300 metres above sea level the trail meets with the river and we will make a refreshing stop in the crystal clear water of the Nizaito. To end up this trail we will follow the river all the way down to the beach until it meets with the Caribbean Sea. Back to the hotel by bus.
* Day 3 Eden’s Garden trek, 8 hours walking (1000 metres highest point).
Short transfer by bus from your hotel.
We will start this trail in the village of Ojeda, on the south coast of Barahona, in a huge farm where you only have to look around to observe and taste advocate, orange, lemon, mango, papaya, zapote, guayaba, passion fruit and many others..
After 2 hours uphill withinh the farm , we will make a wonderful stop at a Mirador which offers an amazing panoramic view over the villages of Los Patos, Ojeda and Paraiso, the river Riosito and the high mountains of Cachote. We will continue the trek uphill in the morning until the village of Bario Nuevo, founded by an Haitian family, producing coffee within the cloud forest. In the afternoon after lunch we will cross several coffee farms on the top of the mountain and then we will go all the way downhill until the canyon of the river Riosito.
Where the trail meets with the river, we can enjoy a king size natural swimming pool which is also the best playground for the children living around. Finally we will follow the river downhill until the village of Paraiso to take the bus and get back to the hotel.
* Day 4 Full day trekking tour in the cloud forest of Cachote, 8 hours walking time (1400 metres highest point).
This morning we will leave the hotel with the safari truck which will drop us in the village of Mundazo located at 400 metres above sea level.
From there we will start the trek on a very nice trail going all the way uphill until the small community of Mundazo located at 1100 metres above sea level. We will make several stops on the way to visit local families of Dominicans and Haitians growing all kind of tropical fruits.
In Mundazo we will stop at an amazing mirador which offers a 180 degrees panoramic view over the bay and the city of Barahona.
From there we will enter a small path within the tropical jungle for the last 300 metres uphill until the top of the mountain ‘Ultima Razon’. This part of the Sierra de Bahoruco, hardly accessible, is almost never visited; you can enjoy some parts of secondary forest and observe a lot of tropical birds such as the famous endemic Dominican Cotorra (parrot).
After having lunch on the top of the mountain, we will go downhill on the south side within the cloud forest until the Bahoruco canyon adorned with hundreds different types of ferns.
We will follow the trail uphill on the other side to climb the mountain of Cachote and finally arrive at the ecological centre where the safari truck will pick us up and bring us back down to the hotel.
* Day 5
Day free at the hotel.
Optional full day Tour Laguna Oviedo, Larimar Mine or Enriquillo Lake
Half day or full day trekking in the mountain Sierra de bahoruco.
* Day 6 Eagle beach, the most beautiful white sand beach of the Caribbean.
In the morning we will take the road south to the Jaragua Park.
On the way we will make a stop at Los Patos to visit an authentic Tainos Cave with hundreds of bats flying around. In total scientists have identified 7 types of bats. Inside the cave we can observe several wall paintings. We will continue the road toward south crossing the Jaragua Park with a very arid vegetation of cactus.
At the end of the road, we will arrive in the village of La Cueva, where a small community of fishermen live inside real caves. There we will take a boat for 45 minutes to reach Bahia de Las Aguilas (Eagle Bay) the most beautiful beach of the Caribbean. Discover this paradise of fishermen and lovers of white sand beach and crystal water. With a length of more than 5 miles, this bay is entirely natural and totally unspoiled.
We will have lunch on the beach and enjoy this marvellous place during the entire afternoon. If you whish to discover underwater world, our guide can take you for a short snorkelling tour to see Manta Ray, sea stars, and many other colourful fishes from the Caribbean Sea. Late afternoon, we will hit back to your hotel first by boat and then by bus.
* Day 7
