Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Airport Waikkal. Meet on arrival and transfer from Airport to Waikkal. Rest of the day is free for bird-watching. Dinner and overnight stay at Ranweli Holiday Village. Day 2: Waikkal. Breakfast at Ranweli Holiday Village. Full day is free for bird-watching. Dinner and overnight stay at Ranweli Holiday Village. Day 3: Waikkal - Kandalama. Breakfast at Ranweli Holiday Village. Transfer from Waikkal to Kandalama. Free for bird watching around Kandalama. Around 90 species of birds make their home here. Dinner and overnight stay at Kandalama Hotel. Day 4: Kandalama - Sigiriya - Kandalama. Breakfast at Kandalama Hotel. Transfer from Kandalama to Sigiriya. Sigiriya: Climb the 5th century Sigiriya rock fortress that is a world heritage site, built by King Kashyapa (477-495 AD). The 'Lion Rock' is a citadel of unusual beauty rising 200 meters from the scrub jungle. If you are a keen bird watcher and not interested in climbing the rock, this is an ideal place for bird watching as well. Transfer from Sigiriya to Kandalama. Dinner and overnight stay at Kandalama Hotel. Day 5: Kandalama - Peradeniya - Kandy. Early morning visit Arrawwala Wewa, a dry-zone perennial tank with abundant birdlife. Breakfast at Kandalama Hotel. Transfer from Kandalama to Kandy. Visit Peradeniya Botanical Gardens in the early evening. Royal Botanical Gardens. This botanical garden was first built as a pleasure garden by a Sinhala king and was expanded by the British. The diversity of trees creates diverse habitats for many species of birds. Transfer from Peradeniya to Kandy. Kandy: Kandy was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings which is a World Heritage Site. Dinner and overnight stay at Hantane Shadow Resort. Day 6: Kandy - Kitulgala. Breakfast at Hantane Shadow Resort. Transfer from Kandy to Kitulgala. Kitulgala, Kelani Valley Forest Reserve. The forest is secondary lowland rainforest on the lower slope with the forest extending up to the higher elevations, contiguous with the Peak Wilderness sanctuary. Red-faced Malkoha, Ashy-headed Laughing Thrush, Malabar Trogon, Lesser Yellow-naped, Pygmy and Crimson-Backed Woodpeckers and Spot-winged Thrush, White-faced Starling, Dollarbird and Chestnut-backed Owlet are among the birds you can observe. This is also the home for the newly discovered Serendib Scops-owl. Dinner and overnight stay at Kitulgala Rest House. Day 7: Kitulgala - Nuwara Eliya Kandapola. Breakfast at Kitulgala Rest House. Morning is free for bird watching. Transfer from Kitulgala to Nuwara Eliya. Nuwara Eliya: Nuwara Eliya, because of its invigorating mountain climate and scenery, is Sri Lanka's most popular hill resort. Victoria Park: Eurasian Blackbird, Indian Blue robin, pied thrush and Grey Tit are commonly seen. Dinner and overnight stay at Hotel Tea Factory. Day 8: Kandapola - Horton Plains - Kandapola. Start the day early. Leave for Horton Plains with picnic breakfast. Horton Plains National Park. Visit Horton plains, which is located on a high windswept saddle at about 2134 meters above sea level. This area is a home for Sri Lanka Whistling Thrush, Orange-billed Babbler, Yellow-eared Bulbul, black-throated Munia and many more birds. Hakgala Botanical Gardens. Hakgala Botanical Gardens which was home for many highland bird species. Dinner and overnight stay at Hotel Tea Factory. Day 9: Kandapola - Yala. Breakfast at Hotel Tea Factory. Transfer from Nuwara Eliya to Yala. Yala National Park: Do a safari of the Yala National Park by jeep. Sri Lankan Jungle fowl and Peacock are common here. Raptors such as Changeable Hawk-eagle, White bellied Sea Eagle and Crested Serpent eagle are also commonly seen apart from many species of large flocks of migratory and indigenous birds. Dinner and overnight stay at Yala Village. Day 10: Yala - Bundala. Transfer from Yala to Bundala. Bundala National Park. Do a safari of the Bundala National Park by jeep. Being the first RAMSAR wet land in the country, this park is so important for migratory birds. Large varieties of migratory shorebirds use the lagoons in this park for their winter stay. Transfer from Bundala to Hambantota. Dinner and overnight stay at Oasis Hotel. Day 11: Hambantota - Sinharaja. Breakfast at Oasis Hotel. Transfer from Hambantota to Sinharaja. Sinharaja Natural World Heritage. A world heritage site since 1988 this is arguable the most important site in Sri Lanka and is internationally important for its biodiversity. You can observe over 15 species of endemic birds of the country. Dinner & overnight stay at the Martin's Lodge with basic facilities. Day 12: Sinharaja Natural World Heritage. Full day bird watching at Sinharaja. Breakfast Picnic lunch, Dinner & overnight stay at the Martin's Lodge with basic facilities. Day 13: Sinharaja - Colombo. Breakfast at Sinharaja Campsite. Visit the forest for last time before leaving to Colombo. Dinner and overnight stay at Galle Face Hotel. Day 14: Colombo - Airport. Breakfast at Galle Face Hotel. Transfer from Colombo to Airport.
