The tour begins with a visit to Oude Molen Brandy Distillery. Known as the father of South African Brandy, Rene Santhagens, first bottled his brandy in 1910 in Stellenbosch, but now nearly 100 years later, Oude Molen has found a home in Grabouw. The distillery houses what are considered to be SA’s largest brandy pot stills. We take a tour of the distillery and learn the fine art of brandy making, left to mature in oak barrels for up to 14 years before being bottled and made available as a VOV brandy. With brandy making behind us, we continue on to one of the oldest estates in the area, Oak Valley, where they can boast of building the first wine cellar in Elgin Valley as early as 1908.
Enjoy a wine tasting of their superior wines and feel free to purchase some of the excellent vintages that have won world acclaimed awards. We enjoy a picnic lunch under canopy of the majestic oak forest, before continuing on through the estate to learn about the flower production, the beef cattle farming, and the fruit and wine production. Views from the highest vineyard are unrivaled and the variances in nature are very clearly demonstrated with the vineyards on one side and the pristine fynbos on the other, substantiating the name of this Green Mountain. Traversing on to the De Rust Estate, also offering incredible views and excellent wines, we enjoy a tasting of the Paul Cluver wines, before heading into the private reserve area to see some of the game such as Eland, Springbok, Bontebok, Red Hartebeest, Zebra and Ostrich. We end the tour at the Tri Active Adventure Centre. Notes: Price Includes:
