Wine is made in almost every state of the Union, but America's infatuation with wine started in California. After Prohibition, the wine industry was moribund. It took the efforts of Robert Mondavi to convince us that we could produce world-class wines in our own country.
Vin's California tour will bring us to the epicenter of this renaissance. We start first in Sonoma, which still has that quirky laid-back feel of years gone by. We'll spend 3 days visiting the full spectrum of wineries, from simple basic to elaborate and glamorous. Then it's on to sophisticated Napa where wine and cuisine take on a different dimension. We'll go on and off Rt 29 to visit wineries that express what Napa is all about. When we leave on May 19, all of us will have acquired a palpable understanding of what makes Napa so special.
