Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival and Transfer. You will be met on arrival and transfer to your hotel. Dinner and overnight – Hotel. Day 2: City Tour of Cotonou. City tour of Cotonou including visits to Red Star square, Independence Square, Dantokpa (one of the biggest open market in West Africa) and Artisanal Marche noted for its spectacular art and craft. Here you will shop using your bargaining prowess. Dinner and overnight – Hotel. Day 3: Ganvie and Ouidah. This tour will take you to Ganvie Stilt Village, a 500 year old village on water. We will ride in a canoe to visit some of the most interesting places in the village like the school, market and lovers lane. Depart for Ouidah, the center of Voodoo, a traditional, animist religion. We will visit the Chief Palace, the temple of Sacred Pythons, the old Slave Fort, Catholic Basilica and Sacred Forest of Deities, return to Cotonou. Dinner and overnight – Hotel. Day 4: Portonovo. Full day tour to Porto Novo noted for its craft market, you will visit Brazilian style mosque, the botanical garden, the Museum of Ethnography and King Toffa’s Palace. Dinner and overnight - Hotel. Day 5: Abomey. Depart Cotonou driving through scenic villages and towns to Abomey (Dahomey) which used to be one of the most powerful kingdoms in the past, parts of the city old wall still stands. You will visit the Royal Palace which houses the Historical Museum and the Royal Sepulchers, standing witness to the greatness of the brave and powerful people. Worth admiring are the works of artists and craftsmen creating works in iron, bronze, copper, paintings, artifacts and famous long-shape statues. Dinner and overnight – Hotel. Day 6: Natitingou. Depart Abomey for Natitingou making a village stop to interact with the villagers. You will visit a Tata Somba Tribe village where you will pay a courtesy call on the Chief. The houses of the Sombas are very spectacular. Dinner and overnight - Natitingou. Day 7: Natitingou - Alada - Cotonou. Depart Natitingou driving south to Cotonou, you will stop briefly at Alada the birth place of Laurent Touson the founding father of Haiti. Dinner and overnight – Cotonou. Day 8: Departure. Rest of the day is free for optional activities until you will be transfer to the airport for departure. Notes:
