Starting from Accra, we will journey Ghana’s Premier University, Du Bois Center and the National Museum. Exploring inland and eastwards of Accra, we will journey one of the coffin showrooms that exhibits fanciful caskets that has stories behind the models, Ghana’s first Cocoa farm, wood carvers and curio stalls en route to Aburi, to see one of the most beautiful and oldest botanic gardens in Africa.
Heading northwards of the Volta Region, we will trek leisurely to the Wli Waterfall and journey the monkey sanctuary and cultural village at Tafi Atome on our way back to Akosombo. In Kumasi, we will journey the Manhyia Palace Museum located within the precincts of the official residence of the Asantehene to see Ashanti culture, history and wealth, Cultural Center and the Central Market; one of the biggest open-air traditional markets in West Africa. The journey continues to the Central Region, where the two World Heritage sites; Cape Coast and Elmina Castles will send us back many years in history while we walk the dungeons and learn about the experiences of the African captives before being transported to the Americas as slaves. We will journey the moist, semi-deciduous Kakum National Park which protects 360 square km of tropical rain-forest habitat and boasts of hundreds of species of butterflies, birds and Spot-Nose, Campbell’s and Colobus monkeys. Besides the canopy walkway which is the main attraction at the Park, there are several exotic floral species whose medicinal values are astounding to know. Heading westwards, we will journey the Ankasa Resource Reserve. This Reserve is regarded as having the greatest biodiversity of any reserve in Ghana; about 300 plants species have been counted in one hectare, the more than 70 resident mammal species in this reserve includes forest elephant, bongo, giant forest hog, chimpanzee and several types of duiker and monkey. While in the Western Region, the village on stilts at Nzulezo which supports a population of roughly 500 people will be journeyed. This stilt village is one construction raised above water, consisting of a central wood and raffia walkway with a little over a dozen houses on either side of it. Member discount: Notes:
