Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival in Santo Domingo Airport (SDQ) or Punta Cana Airport and transfer by minivan to Pedro Sanchez. (3 hours). Stay in local accommodation. Have a welcome drink at Vista del Valle. Day 2: Hiking to Waterfall Marlboro, 6 hours tour (375 meters highest point). After breakfast at the Ecocentro/Restaurant Vista del Valle, we start the walking trail to the Waterfall Marlboro, passing through the settlement of Majagua from where we cross pastures and tropical vegetation until reaching the long-stretched waterfall. In the afternoon after lunch, at Vista del Valle, we visit the local school and then one of the Balnearios of Pedro Sanchez, there at the riverside we can enjoy a king size natural swimming pool which is also the best playground for the children living around. This night you will already feel home in your local accommodation and sleep well. Day 3: Visit of a Cave, 4 hours walking tour. This morning after breakfast at Ecocentro/Restaurant Vista del Valle, we will leave to make a tour to visit one of the many Caves near Pedro Sanchez, located at 200 meters above sea level. We climb uphill a goat path all the way, until we reach the crest of the mountain chain called El Grumo. There we enter and discover an authentic Taino Cave (Cave of the Goats) with hundreds of bats flying around. We will make several stops on the way, to enjoy the beautiful panoramic views over the valley, and visit local families of Dominicans on the way back. At the Ecocentre Vista del Valle in Pedro Sanchez a delicious lunch is waiting to be served in the palm-roofed, open-air terrace, and in the afternoon we walk through the village, to learn about typical Dominican life. We visit a typical local farmers Finca at the river (El Criollo) and learn about the great variety of local agricultural products: mango, oranges, njame, yucca, banana and of course the cacao trees. Beside cattle farming, Cacao is the second important economic sector of the region. This local lifestyle experience his may be extended until late in the evening, listening or dancing to typical Dominican Music (Bachata and Merengue) and making new friends. Day 4: The Chocolate Route, 6 hours excursion. This day we will be following the Chocolate Route, a tourist initiative of the cacao-growing farmers in the province of El Seibo. Many families live from the harvest of Cacao beans, which are transported to the village of El Seibo for drying and further processing. During this tour, we will take time to stop in some isolated settlements near San Franzisco - Vicentillo, in order to learn about new cacao products, like marmalade or even wine made from Cacao, and of course again a variety of tropical fruits. Lunchtime in this farming area will be more a local snack on the way. From the highest point of the Chocolate Route, called Loma Limon, we will drive further uphill until km 16 of the road that connects El Seibo with Miches, to enjoy a great panoramic view over the Atlantic Ocean, the Bay of Miches, with the peninsula of Samana on the other side and the stunning view over the surrounding mountains of the Cordillera Oriental. Driving back we will then have a delicious Dominican dinner at Restaurant Vista del Valle in Pedro Sanchez, a small village dedicated to develop ecotourism with community participation. The Dominicans we meet on the way are all proud to show us their home and their way of living. Day 5: History and Culture. Full day to discover the town of El Seibo, its historic monuments and the market place. Visit the church Santa Cruz de El Seibo, which dates back to the time of Christopher Columbus. Visit the old market place where fruits and vegetable are sold, stroll through some shops. Driving back to Pedro Sanchez and dinner at Vista del Valle again. Day 6: Miches Beach. Transfer by bus from Pedro Sanchez to Miches, the small fishermen village just over the hills. In Miches you can discover some of the most beautiful white sand beaches of the Caribbean. With a length of more than 50 miles, this bay offers virgin dream beaches and coconuts. We will have lunch on the beach and enjoy this marvelous place during the entire afternoon. Late afternoon, we will hit back to Pedro Sanchez by bus, crossing the Cordillera Oriental again. Day 7: Already time to leave! Bus ride back to the airport, connecting with your departure time.
