This two day trip to the Marowijne district, accompanied by artist Ken Doorson, offers a unique combination of nature, culture, art and history.
A feature of this trip is the emphasis on modern art. Around Moengo an art route with the works of Marcel Pinas will be followed, including Moiwana Monument. In Moengo Tembe Art Studio will be visited. This is a special art school for the youth, where painting, music and dance lessons are given. You can view the big works of art of the international ‘Artists in Residence’ in the beginning sculpture garden. In Moengo-Tapoe you will visit the atelier of wood carving artist Oscar Adogo. The beautiful boat trip on the dark Cottica river brings you along Aucanian villages with a quiet and timeless atmosphere, so different from the Upper-Suriname area. In the friendly village Pikin Santi you can relax and Tamarin with its old buildings and boarding school is worthwhile to visit. During the boat trip you will enjoy the green scenery, the several passers and you will get to know the area, the people and their history better. Ken Doorson will take you to the district where he was born and will get to know you with the people who live there, their pace and their kindness. No Spang is the credo.
