Participant selects either of the two workshops offered, which are conducted concurrently. One workshop taps the talents of accomplished native painters; the other the talents of master weavers in San Juan La Laguna at Lake Atitlan. Both workshops 4 allow participants to learn the techniques of these artists and artisans as well as undertake projects under their tutelage. The painters work within the broad international genre of Arte naïf. Mayan Arte Naïf is a contemporary form of art in Guatemala which has been lauded by UNESCO as an important expression of Highlands Mayan culture. Mayan weaving is a more traditional expression of this culture, steeped in centuries of practice unchanged by time.
