The trek is considered to be beautiful trek, Phobjikha valley (3000 m), one of the few glacial valleys in Bhutan, which lies in the mountains east of Wangdue Phodrang. After crossing over the pass you soon some to the great monastery of Gangtey, established in the 17th century. The village of Phobjikha lays a few kilometers down from the monastery, on the valley floor. This quiet, remote valley is the chosen winter home of black necked cranes, which migrate here annually from the Tibetan plateau. This moderate trek visits the village of Gogona and Khotokha, passing through meadows and fields, then forests of juniper, magnolia and rhododendrons in full bloom in April. It is one of the finest lowland treks in Bhutan.
Tour Itinerary: Day 1: Arrive Paro Airport. On arrival at the Paro Airport, you will be met by our representative, and transferred to a hotel after completing the formalities. Over night at the hotel in Paro. Day 2: Paro - Thimphu. After reaching Thimphu, full day cover all the sightseeing and overnight at a hotel in Thimphu. Day 3: Thimphu - Punakha. Full day sightseeing of Punakha valley. Day 4: Punakha - Wangdue. Full day sight seeing of Wangdue. Day 5: Wangdue - Gangtey. After lunch drive to Gangtey. Day 6: Gangtey/Gogona (15 km, 6-7 hours). Trek begins from here. The trail winds gradually upwards through meadows and fields, ascending to Tselela pass (3400 m) where we stop for lunch. The trail then descends gradually for some time through forests of junipers, bamboo, magnolias and rhododendrons. After a last short climb, we reach Gogona village. The people of Gogona were originally nomads and they speak a language called Bjopkha (language of Nomads). Overnight camp. Day 7: Gogona - Khotokha (16 km, 6-7 hours). The trail winds up gently above Gogona village, climbing in to forest of firs, oak, spruce, rhododendrons cypress and junipers. A long and gradual climb takes us up to Shobju-la Pass (3400 m). The path leads down to the wide valley of Khotokha, where the people of Sha (a region of Wangdue Phodrang district) come in summer to graze their animals. Overnight camp. Day 8: Khotokha - Chazam - Wangdue Phodrang (12 km, 5 hrs). A short ascent takes us to a pass, from which the path descends steeply through ever-changing vegetation till finally reaching the bridge at Wangdue Phodrang. The trek ends here. Overnight at a hotel in Wangdue Phodrang Day 9: Wangdue Phodrang - Thimphu. After exploring the attractive Wangdue, and Punakha valleys, we drive to Thimphu. Afternoon sightseeing in Thimphu includes visits to following if time permits: Folk Heritage and textile museum; Handcrafts emporium, paper making factory; Sunday market. Overnight at a hotel in Thimphu. Day 10: Thimphu - Paro. Morning drive to Paro, en route visiting Simtokha Dzong. Today’s sightseeing in Paro includes visit to: Ta Dzong (National Museum), Rinpung Dzong, Drukgyel Dzong and Kichu Lhakhang. Overnight at a hotel in Paro. Day 11: Depart Paro. After early breakfast, drive to Paro Airport for the flight. Note: The best times for this trek are March to May, and September to November.
