Tour Itinerary:
Departure: 8:00 am. Passing through the center of the city with its typical square and the cathedral known as the region’s oldest building, you will first stop at an observation point for a beautiful view of the city, Tenglo Island and the Tenglo Channel. Leaving Puerto Montt, you will head towards Puerto Varas, situated 12 miles away. The City of Roses overlooks Lago Llanquihue, Chile’s second-largest lake, where the reflections of the eternally snow-covered volcanoes Osorno and Calbuco are mirrored in the clear waters. The costanera (coastal road) leads to Puerto Varas’ main square with its gardens and historical monument. Travel 16 more miles north to Frutillar for a leisurely drive through the town’s historical areas. The houses here are surrounded by beautiful gardens and are built in a style reminiscent of Germany’s Black Forest region. You’ll pass by the Lutheran and Catholic churches and the Colonial Museum with its exhibits on the first settlers’ history. From Frutillar you will visit an area where lakes, woods and volcanoes are common. You’ll come back to Puerto Varas, the City of Roses, at Lago Llanquihue and skirt the southern shores of the lake to the village of Ensenada, situated next to the wild Petrohué River Rapids--a symphony of color, sound and nature. After visiting the rapids, you’ll take the road to Osorno Volcano. Halfway uphill, disembark for a walk over well-marked paths on the volcano, stopping to rest as necessary and taking photos on the way. Enjoy the glorious panorama of lakes, snowcovered volcanoes and wooded valleys (depending upon weather conditions). Finally you will walk back to the motor coach and transfer to a quaint restaurant where lunch will be served. Upon returning to the pier, you may either return to the ship or elect to be dropped at the port gates to visit the Angelmó Handicraft Market for shopping on your own. Notes:
