After pick up from all hotels early in the morning we drive directly to the ferry terminal in Banjul the capital city of the Gambia to catch up the ferry to the northern side of the river. On board the ferry, we have a glimpse of the morning Gambian life when Gambians going to work and the Senegalese business men and women heading back home to Senegal with goods bought from the Albert market in Banjul,
Upon arrival in Barra, we continue on towards Senegal. And shortly before we reach the border, we serve our bush breakfast. By the Gambian border Amdalai, we have our passports stamps from whereon we enter Senegal where we also stamp our passports. Officially we are in Senegal and drive directly to Fathala National Park which is located about 5 km from the border. At the entrance to the park entrance, we buy the entrance ticket, and then start the safari. During the tour of the park, we will see herbivorous animals like the Rhinos, Giraffes, Antelopes, Gazelles, Zebras, waterbucks and some beautiful bird species of West Africa. From here we continue to Missira. And upon arrival in Missira we will be visiting the giant silk cotton tree which is also a holy place for the villagers. From here we drive between the lagoon and the savannah towards Toubacouta and in the hotel Les Paletuviers we will be served with a welcome drink and those who wish to visit the toilet can do so. From the hotel we take a boat on the river Saloum to Sippo a typical Island village, where the inhabitant depends entirely on fishing and farming. Here on Sippo there are four different tribes namely Mandingoes, Wolof, Jolas, and Sereres who are there to fish at special times of the year. The chief or village head on the Island is a woman rare in Africa who is also a medicine woman and a witch doctor and gets her medicines from the different types of plants on the island since there is no hospital, electricity, telephone, ambulance or water supply on the Island their only way of communication is by rowing small canoes to come to the mainland. Still on the island we will experience how this people live though poor but still very happy with life. After the visit on the Island we head back for the hotel where upon arrival we will be served with a very delicious and meal where after we have a break by the pool and those feeling like swimming can do so in the Pool.
