We traverse eight miles of remote and scenic waters that course through a wilderness of dense vegetation that completely covers the riverbank. The numerous rapids are interspersed with stretches of calm, tranquil water providing an opportunity to enjoy the surrounding tropical beauty. Lunch will be at a local restaurant and we return to our hotel in La Fortuna in the afternoon. Includes: (B), (L), (D).

Day 6 - Mahogany Park Canopy Tour, and Pacific Ocean

After breakfast we will transfer from the Arenal area, at the bace of the Tilaran mountain range to Manuel Antonio, on the Pacific Ocean. En route we will stop at Mahogany Park. Here we will participate on the adrenaline filled Original Canopy Tour. The climate in this area of Costa Rica is very warm and usually humid. This is a tropical transition forest between the dry lowland forest of the north and the wet rainforest of the south and therefore rich in bio diversity.

The tour lasts about 2 hours. This canopy tour is located in a primary jungle area of the tropical rainforest and is about a 10 - 15 minute hike from the tourist center. The tour consists of 10 platforms in trees, 7 horizontal traverses and a rappel. The tour starts on a hill top where the first platform (or diving board as we call it) is located. From there you traverse to the second and third platforms in an Espavel tree, which is a member of the cashew family. You will rappel or be belayed (a term for a professional lowering technique) down to the third platform where the journey will continue to the other platforms.

The Canopy Tour follows a small stream and wildlife sightings are very common in this area. Often we can see white-faced capuchin and howler monkeys from the platforms. There are also many varieties of birds in this zone and this is one of the areas where there are still endangered mahogany trees in abundance. The last traverse goes to a ground platform at the edge of the valley. The more adventurous person can try a 21 meter rappel down to the edge of the stream instead of the final traverse. After the tour we will stop for lunch at a local restaurant. We reach Manuel Antonio in the afternoon. Includes: (B), (L).

Day 7 - A day of Leisure at Manuel Antonio

Manuel Antonio is also known for its beautiful beach. Here you may choose to just relax and work on that sun tan that will be the envy of your friends back home. Includes: (B)
