The tour runs from September 30 till October 14, 2001. Most days will consist of 4 hours on site at the monuments, 2 hours of classroom instruction and two hours of individual study.
Tour Itinerary: Day 1: Depart New York for Cairo on Egypt Air on your own. We can arrange international airfare for an extra cost. Day 2: Arrive in Cairo and transfer to the Mnea House hotel at the pyramids. Includes: (B). Day 3: In the morning we will explore the Giza Plateau with the Pyramids of Khufu, Kharfa and Menkaura, The Solar Boat and the Sphinx. There will be class and private study in the afternoon. Includes: (B). Day 4: Return to Giza to examine the inscribed monuments. There will be class and private study in the afternoon. Includes: (B). Day 5: Today we travel to Saqqara and the outdoor museum at Memphis. There will be class and private study in the afternoon. In the evening we fly to Luxor where we check into the new wing of the Winter Palace hotel. Includes: (B). Day 6: Today we will visit Karnak, the worlds largest temple complex. There will be class and private study in the afternoon. Includes: (B). Day 7: This morning we will visit Luxor Museum followed by a visit to Luxor Temple. There will be class and private study in the afternoon aboard Musuem Tours private dahabeyah, Neferura. Includes: (B). Day 8: Today we will visit two of Egypt's most spectacular and under visited sites, Abydos and Dendara. There will be class and private study on the bus. Includes: (B). Day 9: We'll drive to the West Bank of Luxor to visit Dier el Bahri, the Ramesseum, Medinet Habu and the Colossi of Memnon. There will be class and private study in the afternoon. Includes: (B). Day 10: We cross the nile to visit the Valley of the Kings where we will explore three tombs. We will then visit several Nobles' tombs. There will be class and private study in the afternoon. Includes: (B). Day 11: We will board our bus and travel to el Kab, site of many early New Kingdom tombs. There will be class and private study on the bus. Includes: (B). Day 12: We will return to Karnak Temple for the entire morning, exploring some of its more out of the way sites. There will be class and private study in the afternoon followed by an evening flight to Cairo where we will check into the Hilton Hotel, downtown. Includes: (B). Day 13: The entire day will be spent in the Cairo Museum researching 3000 years of Egyptian history. There will be no formal class today. In teh evening we will tour the famous Khal el Khalili bazzar where we will have our farewell dinner. Includes: (B), (D). Day 14: Our last day in Egypt is free. Includes: (B). Day 15: Fly to New York and home. Includes: (B). Notes: Note: International air from New Your to Cairo and return is $945.
