Through the years we have numerous requests for short trips to see the glaciers. This is our answer. Blackstone is the closest gathering of tidewater glaciers to Whittier, and despite its lack of remoteness it is unbearably scenic and impressive. Ice rings the back of the Bay and collapses to the sea. The best ice viewing/camping are not reachable by the charter boat so we paddle into and out of the Bay and will spend the middle day taking as much in as we can on a day paddle.
Your Itinerary: Day 1: Trip begins in Anchorage down the scenic Seward Highway to Whittier. We board the water taxi that will take us directly to Blackstone Bay. From the drop off beach we will paddle to our base camp closer to the glaciers. (B) (L) Day 2: This day is spent on a day paddle exploration of the back bay. Up close views of surrounding glaciers, waterfalls and mountains capped in ice fields. (B) (L) (D) Day 3: We have time to add a slight detour to our return to the pick-up beach to meet the water taxi. Return to Anchorage in late afternoon. (B) (L) Notes: Groups of 4 receive a discount.
