We will perch our camp in an alpine meadow near the continental divide where hiking options revolve in 360 degree buffet of choices. Fall colors, long color saturated sunsets and aurora borealis are the mainstay to any fall trip in the Arctic. However our camp will be located along a caribou migration pathway and with luck provide an alternative to the other grand highlights of the trip.
Your Itinerary: Day 1: We leave Fairbanks on a scheduled flight to Bettles on the southern flank of the Brooks Range. Here we fly to our base camp in a much more remote location on the divide of the Brooks Range. The afternoon will be a time to become familiar with the new surroundings. (L) (D) Day 2: On all our base camping trips, we use a democratic process to decide the day’s activity. The Arctic is huge country and there is no loss of things to do each day. From our location there are a few different drainages and several peaks in the vicinity to explore. (B) (L) (D) Day 3: More of the same. With luck we will be staged to witness the caribou heading south to their wintering grounds. (B) (L) (D) Day 4: Another day in paradise. Climb a hill behind camp or poke around the river bottom and take photos/ Tough questions. (B) (L) (D) Day 5: Today is a carbon copy of day one but in reverse. We should return to Fairbanks by 6 pm. (B) (L) Notes: Groups of 4 receive a discount.
