Exploring this rugged wilderness by land, air and water, we bike along lakes, hike through meadows, raft Class III-IV whitewater, sea kayak the majestic Prince William Sound, and fly into the very heart of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. Your Itinerary Day 1: Eklutna Lake - Matanuska Valley Starting in Anchorage, we begin our adventure with a scenic bike ride along the shores of turquoise colored Eklutna Lake, followed by a shuttle to our secluded getaway in the Matanuska River Valley. (D). Days 2-3: Kennicott - Wrangell St. Elias Take a scenic flight to Kennicott, set in the heart of Wrangell-St. Elias, the largest national park in the United States. Explore the ghost town of Kennicott, site of our cozy lodge. Explore massive Root Glacier, coming face-to-face with a stark, ice age landscape. Looking for more adventure? Choose a hike to the historic Bonanza Mine which features glaciers, waterfalls, and ruins. Or take a glacier hike or learn to ice climb! (B/L/D). Days 4-5: Valdez - Prince William Sound We transfer along the unbelievably dramatic Richardson Highway to Valdez, "Alaska's Little Switzerland." After an awesome rafting excursion along the Tsaina River, we sea kayak the well-protected fjords and glaciers of Prince William Sound, one of Alaska's great natural preserves. (B/L/D). Day 6: Girdwood Take an unforgettable ferry ride across Prince William Sound where orca whales, sea otters, and harbor seals cavort among floating icebergs. End the day exploring Byron Glacier or Winner Creek Gorge with an exciting hand-tram across the gorge. (B/L). Notes: Trip Fees Include: One-way van fare from Anchorage to Denali, round-trip bus transport from Denali Park Station to Camp Denali/North Face Lodge, four nights lodging (double occupancy), all meals, guided outings, natural and cultural history interpretation, evening programs, use of recreational equipment, park entry fee and standard class of service on the Alaska Railroad Denali Star from Denali to Anchorage.
