2008 Dates:
June 8 - 15, October 19 - 26.
We are offering Hatha Yoga and Meditation Retreats in Spain from June 2007 to March 2008 at the stunning Molino del Rey Yoga Retreat Center, Andalusia. The weeks are suitable for beginners and experienced yoga practitioners and are carefully designed for people interested in an honest self-exploration and willing to experience the healing and centering power of hath yoga, relaxation, meditation and silence.
Set in the still undiscovered wild beauty of Andalusia, the hamlet of Jorox is in a fertile green valley, flanked by orange groves in the Nature Reserve 'Sierra de las Nieves', only 50 minutes from the Costa del Sol and the magical city of Ronda. A spring of the river Rio Grande is born at the entrance of the hamlet. From it the purest of waters pour through the center, offering bathing facilities whilst surrounded by the wonderful fragrance of mountain flowers. It is an excellent area for hiking, and immersing oneself in the ambiance of unspoiled rural Spain in one of the best National Park.
Rooms: The individually decorated, comfortable twin rooms all have en-suite bathrooms and balconies, most overlooking the 'Sierra de Las Nieves' in Andalusia. They are equipped with air conditioning for use during the summer months and with heating and electric blankets for use during the winter months.
Activities: There is an enticing swimming pool as well as cosy and serene meditation caves set in to the mountainside, a sun lounge area, a sauna, a dedicated massage room and a stunning chill out area overlooking the valley. A mountain spring also meanders it's way through the Yoga Retreat Center, keeping the surroundings cool and fresh for visitors.
Yoga Studio: The yoga studio is 100 square meters with wooden flooring and occupies an extraordinary position with floor to ceiling windows with views across the valley and a door leading into the inner stillness of the caves. The studio is fully equipped with Yoga props and training materials. During summer the studio is naturally air-conditioned from adjoining caves and is heated centrally during the winter month, making it a fantastic, year round yoga venue.
Food: The food is tasty, wholesome vegetarian with lots of variety. Meals are served twice daily and food is made available during the day to snack on in case guests get hungry. Molino del Rey does not run an organic restaurant but as Spain is so abundant with fresh produce due to its climate, fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables that are grown locally are used as much as possible. Teas are available throughout the day and fresh mountain spring water is in constant supply.

The difference between a yoga holiday and a yoga retreat: While the distinction between a yoga holiday and a yoga retreat is not always clear, there is quite a difference in terms of focus and general feel or atmosphere. Generally speaking, a Yoga Holiday is primarily an activity holiday. The time devoted daily to yoga usually won't exceed three to four hours, in one, or possibly two daily classes, and you will have time for other activities, visiting tourist attractions or just to relax. The location often reflects this, with a beach or other notable attractions nearby. The atmosphere is often relaxed, and it is usually a nice opportunity to meet other like-minded people.
On a Yoga Retreat the schedule is likely to be a lot more structured and intense, including yoga asanas (postures) as well as pranayama breathing, deep relaxation, meditation, contemplation, self reflection, silent times as well as time for questions and answers. The main focus is to deepen your yoga practice and self-understanding. The choice of location should reflect this, with a quiet, possibly remote location.
Retreats should be fully residential, the food vegetarian, and meal times carefully thought out to fit smoothly within the daily routine. You may find a good mix of beginners as well as more 'hard core' yogis and yoginis on retreats and the overall atmosphere is relaxed and can be quite focused. A retreat is a perfect time to tune into your body-mind and to nourish your being - time for yourself.
A note on silence: During retreats at Molino del Rey with Neo Ornelas, we will also be experiencing the power of silence during a one and a half days silent period. The preparation for this silent period is carefully designed and is a time extremely valued by our participants. Most people who have not practiced silence before are positively surprised with the easiness of the practice and the deep relaxation that comes with it.
