Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Port Elizabeth to Tsitsikamma
You will leave Port Elizabeth and travel to the Tsitsikamma Forest, and indigenous primeval forest with towering ancient yellow wood trees, lush vegetation and deep gorges. The "woodcutters journey" follows and old elephant trail through the forest. After lunch (included in tour), you will drive down a steep pass to the Storms River Mouth for a boat trip up the Storms River Gorge, where cliff faces extend 150 meters above the boat. In the evening you will enjoy country cuisine.
Day 2: Tsitsikamma to Knysna
Before leaving the Tsitsikamma Forest, you will stop at Bloukrans Bridge to witness the world's highest commercial bunji jump. Today you are in the heart of the Garden Route and will enjoy a scenic drive along the Old Passes Road, stopping for a swim at the unspoiled beaches on Natures Valley or the glamorous resort of Plettenerg Bay. Then it is off on a 45 minute "eco-stroll" along the Robberg Peninsula, a rocky headland which presents a fine example of how plants and animals adapt to the interacting influences of land and sea. Robberg affords excellent views of any whales or dolphins which may be visiting Plettenberg Bay. You may reach Knysna in time for a drive along the shores of the Knysna Lagoon to enjoy an elegant afternoon tea a the quaint village of Belvidere. In the evening a seafood supper is served at a restaurant overlooking the lagoon.
Day 3: Knysna to Oudtshoorn
You have a few hours to browse the arty-crafty shops of Kysna before catching the Outenique Choo-Tjoe steam train to George, traveling via the scenic Lake District and Wilderness. After George, you will cross over the protea-covered Outeniqua Mountains to Oudtshoorn, in the Little Karoo. In the afternoon you will visit an ostrich farm, and drive to the Cango Caves to explore these massive limestone caverns. You will return to the guesthouse, where it is time to relax or cool off by the pool. In the evening you will dine on ostrich steak or delicious Karoo mutton.
Day 4: Oudtshoorn to Cape Town
You will journey through the unique landscape of the air Little Karoo, passing through the Calitzdorp and Barrydale, and then enter the verdant Breede River Valley the largest of the Western Cape's fruit and wine producing valleys. As you follow the "fruit route" you will enjoy magnificent mountain views, vineyards, orchards and indigenous flora. Stops will be made at roadside far stalls to purchase fruit. In Worcester you will tour the Karoo National Botanical Garden, which shows off the fabulous wealth of the cape floral kingdom and is also heaven for rare and endangered plants. The breath-taking Du Toit's Kloof Pass brings you over the mountains and into the fairest city of all, Cape Town.
