See the unique Addo Elephants; follow lions on a night game drive at Schotia Private Game Reserve; visit the world renowned Shamwari Game Reserve to see rhino, giraffe and buffalo at close quarters. The Big Game Getaway is offered as a two day or a three day tour.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1:
Our first game drive is in Addo Elephant Park National Park, which has a unique place in the struggle to preserve the African Elelphant. It is home to the densest population of elephant in the world, as well as zebra, jackal, warthog, and numerous species of antelope such as kudu, red hartebeest, and bushbuck.
At Schotia Private Game Reserve we climb on board an open Landrover for a night game drive in search of lions and other nocturnal animals. Lions are generally nocturnal hunters so there is a chance that you might be able to see a hunt in progress. On your return a safari cuisine supper is waiting for you in the open air "lappa". After supper you can sit around the campfire before retiring to bed.
Day 2:
This morning before breakfast, you have the option of joining the game ranger for a gentle 1 hour bush walk. You will learn about identifying animal tracks as well as the medicinal uses of some of the fascinating plants that occur in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. After breakfast you will drive to Shamwari Game Reserve where you will visit Kaya Lendaba, a traditional African arts and culture village.
A sumptuous lunch is served before you set off on a three hour game drive in the open topped Landrovers. Shamwaris is home to the endangered Cape Buffalo, and both the black and white Rhino, as well as lion, elephant, giraffe, hippo, zebra, and numerous of species of antelope. It also offers a sanctuary on African soil to captive lions rescued from poor conditions by the Born Free Foundation. You will return to Port Elizabeth in the early evening. If you have chosen the three day Big Game Safari you will return to Schotia for a fireside supper before retiring for the night.
Day 3:
After a leisurely farmhouse breakfast you will climb on board the landrovers to view many of the antelope species occurring at Schotia- kudu, blesbok, eland, gemsbok, wildebeest (blue and black wildebeest), red hartebeest, duiker and more. You will return to the Lapa for a light lunch. In the afternoon you can take a stroll along the self-guided nature trail or spend a few hours at the bird hide spotting some of the approximately 190 species of birds found in the area. You will return to Port Elizabeth in the late afternoon.
