Why train for just any local marathon when you could finish a marathon in one of the most beautiful cities in the world—Venice, Italy. The flat course starts in the town of Stra outside of Venice, along the Brenta River. The picturesque route leads past many beautiful villas designed by the famous architect Palladio. Italians are wild about sporting events and in each town along the route the locals come out and create a party atmosphere — cheering us along -“Forza! Brava-Vai!!”. The race continues through the outskirts of Maestre, until at mile 20 you arrive at the causeway from the mainland into the city of Venice. The historic center of Venice is actually an island dissected by its beautiful canals, and as the route enters this historic area, it passes by ship yards and along the front side of the city, a bella vista for all the runners. As the finish line approaches, it crosses a floating bridge that brings the runners across the Grand Canal! Finally, you arrive on the waters edge near St. Marks Square where spectators line the finish area—cheering on the runners, only in Italy! This is one Marathon that you will never forget—it’s on our list of top-ten-best things we have ever done!

Sample Activities:

- Arrive in Venice on Thursday, October 25, 3 days prior to the race, allowing time to explore and actively recover from jet lag before the race on Sunday.
