Tour Itinerary: Day 1: Arrival/Kigali Arrive Kanombe airport in Kigali, met by our representative and the driven to Novotel Umumbano. Enjoy and afternoon city tour, visiting the central market, craft village, a genocide memorial and the Franco-Rwanda cultural center. Overnight Novotel Umumbano, Kigali. Day 2: Butare Travel to Butare, Rwanda's second city, to visit the palace and fascinating National Museum. Continue on ward past tea estates spread across the hillside to stay for two nights at the ORTPN Guest House, a simple property located on the edge of the Nyungwe National Park. Day 3: Primate Tracking, Nyungwe National Park Enjoy full day guided nature walk in the forest in search of the 13 recorded species of primates, including colobus and vervet monkeys, olive baboons, grey-cheeked mangabey, and chimpanzees. Day 4: Nyungwe National Park/Lake Kivu After a morning guided forest walk, travel to Lake Kivu to stat overnight in the Kibuye Guest House. Renowned for it's cuisine, meals are served in the elegant main dining room whilst boats and dug out canoes are available for leisurely exploration of the Lake. Day 5: Lake Gisenyi Drive on the scenic road that tumbles through lush plantain fields and provides sweeping views over Lake Gisenyi to stay overnight at the Kivu Sun Hotel. This charming lodge offers en-suite accommodation in bungalows around a central lawn surrounded by trees. Overnight Gorilla Nest Lodge, Park National de Volcans. Includes: (B), (L), (D). Day 7: Mountain Gorilla Tracking, Park National de Volcans/Lake Burera/Lake Ruhondo An early start to track the mountain gorilla's trek through the forest and up the slopes of the volcano requires stamina and patience but the first encounter with these mighty animals will be a truly memorable one. After spending some time observing these magnificent creatures, visit the little known but compellingly beautiful lakes Burera and Ruhondo. Overnight Gorilla Nest Lodge, Parc National de Volcans. Day 8: Mountain Gorilla Tracking, Park National de Volcans/Kigali Second opportunity to trek the mountain gorillas, later visit the local communities or trek to the Karisoke center, famously set up by Dian Fossey before returning to Kigali for the overnight.
