Fall celebrations sweep the province September through October. Savour sweet apple pies and crisp autumn wines amid the buzz and bustle of harvest markets and craft pavilions. Also visit legendary ports like Lunenburg - a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and Liverpool -“Port of the Privateers”. Both have been havens to sailors for many generations and are still reminiscent of a past when sailing ships called to port on a regular basis. This is a leisurely cruising vacation, and the perfect way to experience the coastal splendor of southern Nova Scotia.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Boarding takes place in Halifax, the gateway to Atlantic Canada. A flourishing and prominent port situated on the world's second largest natural harbor, Halifax is a modern city teeming with culture and heritage and the perfect place to start this journey. Before departing, a Parks Canada guide will join us to give insight about the area, history and culture we are about to discover. We will spend the afternoon sailing past century-old lighthouses, and bold headlands. It’s an overnight cruise and a chance to relax, get oriented with the ship and enjoy the scenic coastline of Canada’s Sea-coast. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 2: Arriving at daybreak to Port Mouton, a beautiful place for anchorage. Opportunities will exist for beach combing sand dollars, sea kayaking past seal colonies and mountain biking. For the more adventuresome, experience one of the most breathtaking hiking trails in Nova Scotia. Take a side trip and discover the most interesting art studio in eastern Canada, Bernard Bowles and Tony Pace bring the word recycling to life. In the evening join the beach bonfire where crew, guests and town folk join together for a night of storytelling. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 3: It’s an early morning sail to historic Liverpool, the former home of North America’s most successful privateers of the 17th and 18th century. You will arrive midday and have ample time to explore this lively seaport. To see these sites first hand, join a guided walking tour to discover more than 32 historic sites dating back to 1763. Or join the “Natures Wonders” expedition to Kejimkujik National Park. The lush woodlands and gently rolling landscapes are home to a variety of wildlife. You will find historic canoe routes, and many beautiful hiking trails in the park. Once returning to the ship, dinner is also a chance to discover - the chef has prepared mouth-watering bounty from the land and sea. You may choose to end this eventful day by taking in an evening performance at the local Astor Theater. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 4: Nova Scotia is magnificent in the fall and our next stop, in the LaHave region allows us to take in this natural beauty. Once ashore stroll Crescent beach, take a bike ride, join a zodiac tour or go for a paddle. For the birders keep a look-out, this area is known for osprey and bald eagles. With an erupting backdrop of vibrant fall colors we stay sheltered in a small cove for the evening. The Chef prepares an on-deck grill of local fish, meats and vegetables all seasoned with a true maritime flair. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 5: The ship will make way early in the day for the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Lunenburg. Arriving to Lunenburg in the early afternoon to what was once the focal point for the Grand Banks fishery, supplying a long list of sailors and world-class racing schooners during the height of the fishery. You will find a beautiful art gallery in the same building as a blacksmith, still practicing skills of the past. Visit the Fisheries Museum, get on board a Lobster Fishing boat or take in this colourful town on a Horse and Buggy ride. The ship is in port for the evening and we celebrate with the Captain’s Dinner, an evening full of traditions, music and laughter. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 6: Sailing out of Lunenburg in the morning, like so many sailors in the past, the brightly painted houses along the shoreline will lead the way. We enjoy a stop at Mahone Bay, which boasts a long history of shipbuilding and sailing vessels. This Nova Scotian town, which the New York Times calls "pretty as a picture", is a treasury of history, culture and 19th century architecture. In the late afternoon we continue our scenic sail, passing by one of Canada’s most photographed locations. The famous lighthouse in Peggy’s Cove, built on large smooth wave washed granite rocks, it is the crowning feature of this beautiful Atlantic cove. Also not to be missed is the Sambro Lighthouse, the oldest lighthouse in North America. We enjoy the toe-tapping sounds of the fiddle as our cruising day comes to an end. We anchor in the Northwest Arm, a unique inlet that provides a charming cradle to spend our last night. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 7: In the morning disembarking will take place in Halifax. Leave this day with your senses awakened, never forgetting the discovery of colourful culture and coastlines. Includes: (B).
