Join renowned wildlife sculptor Rip Caswell for a rare unique 1 or 2 weeks (Feb 1st – 15th) of incredible learning and fun at Casa de los Artistas. Come and relax, create, explore and learn as Rip guides you, demonstrates and explains about the various methods, materials and techniques that goes into the creation of a bronze sculpture. We will have as our model for sculpting - Coca Rico, a beautiful Amazonian Parrot (one of the mascots of Boca Divers). Rip will guide each participant in the basics of modeling with clay in the stunning Casa Studio, a 1500 sqr. ft. open-air studio with incredible views. Participants in Rip’s week 1 “Introduction to Sculpture” will have lots of hands on work, along with demonstrations and lectures.
Anticipate a memorable experience, filled with adventure, inspiration, and camaraderie among new friends. You will bring home with you skills, knowledge, insight and a working understanding of the sculptural process. The Casa’s Bob Masla, who has over 30 years as an exhibiting artist and over 25 years teaching experience, will also be available for teaching and demonstrating the techniques for drawing and rendering, both from observation and eidetic powers, so you can work out your sculptural ideas on paper too. Those who participate in week 2 – “Advanced Sculpting Techniques”-will have the advantage of extending their stay an extra week to further your studies with Rip and develop more advanced techniques for modeling and refining techniques for textures, illusions, composition, etc. Week 2 will also have the hands on experience of creating a mold from their clay sculpture that they can bring home with them to cast in either plaster or bronze.
But that’s not all; there will be numerous cultural excursions as well. We will visit the exotic botanical gardens for photography and sketching, the Mt. town of El Tuito to sketch and explore at the zocalo and then have lunch and tequila tasting at the hacienda restaurant Altamira, overlooking the mountains and the aguave plantation. A trip into Peurto Vallarta and experience the lively arts scene. A boat trip to explore the gorgeous coastline and spectacular rock formations, as well as to swim or snorkel at Los Arcos National Coral Reef Park, with opportunities for seeing sea turtles, whales, dolphins and abundant fish. We will also visit the new Zoo in Mismaloya that recently announced the rare birth of 3 Bengal Tigers. Other wild life is right at hand, from your balcony you can view tropical birds and observe the local unspoiled Boca.
This workshop is suitable for everyone, regardless of their art experience. From those with no previous training, as well as the seasoned artists and professional looking to find a place of calm reflection and fresh inspiration to infuse their work with new energy and stimulation.
