This is an opportunity to explore the southern part of the Lleyn Peninsula and the Cambrian Coast as far south as Aberdyfi, and having the fun of using the railway, both diesel and steam. You will be staying in the picturesque seaside towns of Cricieth and Abersoch and will be given a warm Welsh welcome.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrive in Criccieth at the Lion Hotel. Criccieth is a picturesque seaside town with a historic castle. You can arrive by train on the Cambrian Coast Line which also gives spectacular views of the scenery in Mid Wales as it winds its way from Birmingham New Street.
Day 2: After breakfast head 300 yards down to the Station and catch a train east to Porthmadog where you have the opportunity of switching to the Ffestiniog narrow guage line for a journey up to Blaenau Ffestiniog and/or you can walk back to Criccieth along the beautiful coast near Morfa Bychan and the Black Rock Sands. 7 miles.
Day 3: Take the train west to Pwllheli and explore this interesting Welsh Town with its beautiful marina and small shops. Today you will walk back to Criccieth. This is a combination of coastal walking and an inland diversion through some of the quiet lanes of Lleyn, the Dwyfor Valley and the Lloyd George Museum. 8-14 miles.
Day 4: A Rover Ticket goes all the way down to Machynlleth. You could stop off at Portmeirion - the Italianate village built by Clough Williams Ellis, dramatic Harlech Castle, or picturesque Aberdovey.
Day 5: Take the train to Pwllheli station, cross the road and catch the bus to Abersoch which will drop you outside the Llysfor Guesthouse. This overlooks the harbour and is beautifully kept. Abersoch is a busy place with lots of holiday makers and there are plenty of restaurants to suit all pockets. Today you can explore the Cilan headland - which offers circular walks of between 3 and 10 miles, or you can walk eastwards to Llanbedrog where you can visit the art gallery of Plas Glyn y Weddw.
Day 6: This is the day for a challenging walk to Aberdaron -west across the neck of the Cilan headland onto Hell’s Mouth, a four mile stretch of sandy beach washed by the tide, up over Rhiw Mountain, past the National Trust Manor house Plas yn Rhiw, along the rocky coast overlooking Bardsey Island and finally through the Daron valley to Aberdaron and St Hywyn’s church. You will deserve a meal and we’ll be happy to serve you tea at our offices which are in the village. When you are ready we will take you back to Abersoch in our minibus. If you don’t make it all the way to Aberdaron we will pick you up in our minibus.
Day 7: This is a day where you have various options, a series of local walks, a challenging inland walk to the Iron Age fort of Carn Fadryn, a day to enjoy the sights and atmosphere of Abersoch or an opportunity to go to Bardsey Island (transport for this and the boat trip itself is extra). Or take a trip on the Shearwater boat which will take you along the coast to spot the area’s rich wildlife including seals and dolphins.
Day 8: Return home.
Notes:
Airfare is not included in the tour price.
Our price for this holiday as described is £420 per person sharing a double or twin room.
