Travel off the beaten track Northern Kenya's enchanting and rugged terrain. You will be captivated by views of beautiful mountain forest surrounded by a contrasting scapes of hot dusty deserts, finally arriving at the Jade Sea, commonly known as Lake Turkana.
A journey across the Chalbi Desert will bring you face to face with the northern tribes-people including the Pokot, Samburu, Turkana, Rendille, Gabra and Borana. (This is however not possible during the rainy seasons, usually in the months of April, May and June). From spectacular wildlife viewing to bird watching; boat rides and crater excursions your experience will be unforgettable. Highlights: Visit to traditional homesteads and cultural dances under starlit skies. TOUR ITINERARY DAY 1 MT KENYA: You will be picked up from your hotel and proceed to Mt Kenya region. Go for afternoon game drives at Sweetwaters Game ranch, a private ranch and the only sanctuary in Kenya for the rehabilitation of chimpanzees. The sanctuary has been made as close to their natural habitat as possible. Camp overnight at Mountain Rock Campsite. DAY 2 MT KENYA - SAMBURU: Drive across the equator and into the Samburu Game reserve, home of the Maasai giraffe, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, grevy's zebra and a host of other animals. Dinner and overnight camp in the park. DAY 3 SAMBURU: Spend the day viewing the rich variety of gam in the Samburu game reserve. You may get to see other animals you missed like the "king of the jungle" or even elephants. DAY 4 MARSABIT: We set off back to the North along the African Highway to Marsabit National park and Reserve, an oasis in the middle of a desert. The park comprises a densely forested extinct volcano mountain and 3 crater lakes which act as watering points for wildlife including the endangered Grevy's Zebra and habitats for a variety of birdlife. We will set up camp within the park and visit the lodge within which is situated on the edge of one of the lakes and hopefully see elephant, buffalo, bushbuck, gazelle and other antelopes as they come to drink water. We will have dinner and spend the night at camp in the park DAY 5 KALACHA: We visit Marsabit town and another volcanic crater before making our way back into the desert and lava flows. We camp at Kalacha, a small settlement on the edge of the Chalbi Desert. Day 6 LAKE TURKANA: We depart early crossing the Chalbi Desert. (This however is not possible during wet seasons there are alternative roads around the North and South). We arrive at Loyangalini where we set up our camp soon after lunch. Mingle with the localsand really connect with the Turkana traditional way of life. Dinner and overnight camping. Day 7 LAKE TURKANA: We spend the day relaxing and bathing only interrupted by a short boat excursion to visit the surrounding areas. In addition, we may visit one of the Turkana Manyattas for traditional dances under a star studded sky at an extra cost if clients wish – an unforgettable experience. Dinner and overnight camping. DAY 8 BARAGOI: We journey via South Horr to Baragoi, a major livestock market in the Samburu District with numerous hotels, bars and restaurants. The area is home to the Samburu (related to the Masai), Turkana and Somalis tribes. Dinner and overnight camping DAY 9 LAKE BARINGO: Heading South via Maralal we visit Lake Baringo where we do some bird-watching or take an evening boat ride to see the Hippos and crocodiles. Overnight in a campsite. DAY 10 NAIROBI: After Breakfast drive back to Nairobi arriving late afternoon. Drop off at your hotel. Notes:
