If you are looking for a true wilderness backpacking experience this trip is for you. Wrangell St. Elias is part of the largest protected ecosystem on the planet. A small bush plane will take us from the small community of McCarthy into the heart of the park to the beginning of our adventure. There are several backpacking routes which all require a bushplane flight to access. This gives us solitude in the Alaska wilderness and we will follow gravel bars, hike on tundra, cross streams and follow game trails and sometimes old mining trails from the turn of the century.
We will travel through some magnificent country and have the opportunity of seeing wildlife such as grizzlies, black bear, caribou, mountain goats, dall sheep. See huge glaciers, clear alpine lakes, Alaskan tundra and more.
