Brazil is very much a country of contrasts. When someone hears the word Brazil, one thinks of the great Amazon forest, fantastic beaches, great soccer players, Carnival time - and that's all.
Well, Brazil, the most important country in South America, certainly has much more to offer: warm people, great Colonial cities with rich history and listed World Heritage Sites, a wide range of weather patterns, which created either the Rain forests in the North or the abundant Waterfalls in the South and an awesome mixture of cultures and races - and much, much more!
Your Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive Rio de Janeiro
After we arrive in Rio, we meet our guide and driver and are transferred to our Hotel located on the World-famous Copacabana Beach. Balance of the day is free to rest. Overnight: Hotel Rio International Porto Bay (3 nights)
Day 2: Rio de Janeiro
No other city in the world can compare with the natural beauty of Rio de Janeiro. Dazzling beaches and majestic mountains form a unique back-drop for a busy metropolis. Rio is a modern cosmopolitan city where visitors immediately feel at home. Local people call it "Cidade Maravilhosa" - The Marvelous City.
After a leisurely breakfast, we will have a great opportunity to explore more of Rio de Janeiro and its surroundings. We start with a tour to the Sugar Loaf Mountain, but before see the Guardian of Guanabara Bay. From here, a trilling cable car ride will take us to the top of the Sugar Loaf, located at 395 meters above the city. In the afternoon we’ll explore the other famous beach of Rio, the Ipanema Beach.
For those who prefer a slightly more relaxed scene, there is Ipanema. This beautiful beach is the playground for some of Rio's wealthiest and most sophisticated citizens. Jetsetters and socialites congregate on this one-mile stretch of pristine white sand beach. The evening is free for you to explore Copacabana by night. Included: B.
Day 3: Rio de Janeiro
Your breakfast at the hotel is followed by the tour to Christ the Redeemer statue, one of Brazil’s / Rio’s main symbol, located on the top of the Mountain of Corcovado, at 710 meters above the sea level and inaugurated in 1931. Our tour actually begins in Cosme Velho's neighborhood, from where the cog train starts a trip through the Tijuca Forest, the largest urban forest in the world, up to the statue.
Once there, a panoramic and extraordinary view of Rio will be seeing including the Sugar Loaf, the Guanabara Bay, the beaches of Southern Zone and the Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon. After the visit of the Corcovado, our tour will continue to São Conrado area with a brief stop at the Pepino Beach, from where we can appreciate the flight of the hang gliding.
Later we return to our hotel, to change for our evening program… We’ll enjoy our outstanding “Rio by Night” tour and have first a dinner in one of Rio’s famous Churrascarias (local steak house) Restaurant. This barbecue dinner is part of the Brazilian cuisine & folklore.
After dinner we’ll proceed to one of the renowned Samba Show houses in town, to see the display of carnival, throughout the year, with beautiful costumes, the rhythm of a typical samba school and the diverse richness of the Brazilin culture. Included: B, D.
Day 4: Rio de Janeiro / Salvador da Bahia (flight)
After breakfast, we are transferred to the airport for our short flight to Salvador da Bahia. Upon arrival, meet our guide and get transferred to hotel. Balance of the day is at leisure. Overnight: Hotel Mercure Salvador (2 nights). Included: B, D.
Day 5: Salvador da Bahia
As the first capital of Brazil, from 1549 to 1763, Salvador de Bahia witnessed the blending of European, African and Amerindian cultures. It was also, from 1558, the first slave market in the New World, with slaves arriving to work on the sugar plantations. The city has managed to preserve many outstanding Renaissance buildings.
Today’s city tour will take us to see the Upper and Lower cities of Salvador and the Colonial remnants of their cobblestone-paved streets and stucco buildings, including the Sao Francisco Church, The Carmo Museum and Church, the Mercado Modelo Market, and “The largo do Pelourinho” (whipping Post Square), where slaves were auctioned and punished during Colonial times. Included: B, D.
Day 6: Salvador da Bahia / Recife (flight)
After breakfast we’re transferred to the airport for our short flight to Recife. Upon our arrival wee meet our guide and are transferred to hotel. Balance of the day is at leisure. Overnight: Hotel Atlante Plaza, Recife (2 nights). Included: B, D.
Day 7: Recife
Although Recife is the fourth-largest city in Brazil, it is less modern and cosmopolitan than its more famous counterparts. Recife and its environs have only recently become a tourist destination, so visitors are often a novelty for its inhabitants, especially for those of the neighboring fishing villages.
We’ll start our city tour after our breakfast and go to see Recife’s colonial architecture and its historical downtown area, including the Brennand Ceramic Studios and The Casa da Cultura handicraft market.
After completing tour of Recife, we’ll drive to the colonial town of Olinda, a World Heritage Site, which boasts a wealth of Colonial architecture, notably the houses and churches of Alto da Sé, whilst its historical heritage keeps alive the story of Colonial Brazil. Included: B, D.
Day 8: Recife / Manaus (flight)
After breakfast we’re transferred to the airport for our short flight to Manaus. Embedded in the Amazon Forest, Manaus is a city with almost 1.5 million inhabitants and it is the capital of Amazonas, the largest Brazilian state. The city impresses with its natural beauty, ecological parks and a series of green areas that seem endless.
It is a land of contrasts, blending exuberant nature with a high-tech industrial center and the remains of a glorious past, during the peak of the international rubber trade. Upon arrival, and after our transfer to Ecopark Lodge, we’ll visit the Monkey Jungle, where one can observe the surrounding wildlife habitat.
We return to our Lodge for dinner. After dinner we take a ‘night excursion’ and witness Alligator-spotting by flashlight. Overnight: Amazon Ecopark Jungle Lodge, Manaus (2 nights). Included: B, D.
Day 9: Amazon Ecopark Lodge
This morning we’ll go to explore the Amazonia and will take a morning Nature Hike to its natural surroundings, trekking in the Amazon Rain Forest, for approx 2,5 hrs. We leave the jungle Lodge walking and follow our guide, that open the way and we follow his path strictly to avoid surprises.
During the walk the guide will tell us about the local fauna & flora, also medicine plants, and hopefully we will observe some exotic animals as well. Amazonian-type lunch is followed by a visit to the homes of local Amazonian residents (caboclos) with an opportunity for piranha fishing. We will return to our Lodge for Dinner. Included: B, L, D.
Day 10: Manaus / Iguassu Falls (flight)
We leave this morning by boat to witness the meeting of the waters, the place where Rio Negro and the Solimoes Rivers meet. "The Meeting of the Waters" is where the black waters of the Negro River and the brown waters of the Solimões River meet and run together for miles without mixing until they finally merge to form the actual Amazon River.
After our lunch at a floating restaurant, we return to Manaus Airport late in the afternoon for our flight to Iguassu. Upon arrival in Iguassu we’re transferred to our hotel. Overnight: Hotel Bourbon Cataratas Hotel & Resort, Iguassu (2 nights). Included: B, L.
Day 11: Iguassu Falls
The Iguassu (Iguaçú) Falls are located in the Iguaçú National Park, at the border of Brazil and Argentina. In a horseshoe form, 2,700 meters wide between the two countries, the Iguassu Falls fill the visitor's view with the spray of 72 meter-high falls - the number of them varies between 150 and 300, depending on the flow of the Iguassu River.
The panorama overwhelms the onlooker with a sensation of fright, fascination and respect for the perfection of nature. A visit to the Falls and the contact with wildlife and the spectacle of the waters awake an emotion that many hope to experience once in a lifetime.
After breakfast we’ll enjoy a tour to the Brazilian and Argentinean sides of the magnificent falls, also have a view of the Falls from the platform overlooking Devil’s Throat; the main falls, from where the Iguassu River precipitates. Included: B, D.
