Trekking in Manasalu region was officially opened to trekkers in 1991 but mountaineering expeditions have had long access to this region. A team led by H .W Tillman trekked from Tonje to Bhimtang and Col. Jimmy Roberts crossed Larke La (5230m) looking for an interesting mountain to climb in 1950. However the Japanese Expedition Team climbed Manasalu only in 1956.
