Beijing, the present heart of China, is a city rich in the remnants of China’s imperial past, which you can sense from the Forbidden City and Temple of Heaven to the Great Wall and fast-disappearing Hutongs (Beijing alleyways). These famous sites are definite “must -see” for any first-time visitors.
Suzhou is a place of great beauty. A proverb says that “In heaven there is a paradise; on earth, Suzhou and Hangzhou”. It is located near the east shore of Lake Taihu where the Grand Canal joins the Yangtze River. It is surrounded by more than 20 lakes. Narrow waterways thread between white – walled houses to link up with the Grand Canal, making the city the “Venice of China”.
Shanghai is China’s most dynamic and vibrant city, buzzing with economic development as well as fast-catching fashions. It is located at the south bank of the world’s third longest river, the Yangtze River, at its outlet to the East China Sea.
Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrive in Beijing
Arrive in Beijing, the capital of China. Meet your guide upon arrival and be transferred to your comfortable hotel. (D)
Day 2: Beijing
Begin the day’s activity with a visit to Tian’anmen Square, the largest urban square in the world. Then, move on to the Imperial Palace, also known as the “Forbidden City”, the biggest palace complex in the world. In the afternoon, visit Temple of Heaven, the place where the emperors of Ming and Qing Dynasties worshiped heaven and prayed for good harvest. A Peking Duck Dinner concludes your first full day activities in China. (B-L-D)
Day 3: Beijing
Today’s highlight is the visit of the Great Wall, one of the “Seven Wonders of the World” and a symbol of Chinese civilization. Then, move on to visit the Ming Tombs (Changling Tomb) area where is for deceased emperors of the Ming Dynasty. (B-L-D)
Day 4: Beijing
Visit the enchanting Summer Palace, one of China’s largest and best-preserved royal gardens, where you can have a walk along the famous Long Corridor. Then, move on to visit the Confucius Temple where people paid homage to Confucius during the Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasty. Now the temple houses the Beijing Capital Museum. (B-L-D)
Day 5: Beijing
Today, you will visit the Yonghe Lama Temple, the biggest Tibetan Buddhist Lama Temple in Beijing, and the most renowned in China (outside Tibet itself). In the afternoon, you will take a ride in rickshaw through some old “Hutongs”, lanes or alleys formed by lines of Siheyuan (a compound with houses around a courtyard). (B-L-D)
Day 6: Beijing-Suzhou
Today is free for you to explore the city or go shopping. Be transferred to the railway station in the later afternoon, take an overnight train to Suzhou. (B)
Day 7: Suzhou
Arrive in Suzhou in the morning, known as the garden of China, is famous for its embroidery. Today you will visit Lingering Garden. Lingering Garden is renowned for the artistic way in which the spaces between various kinds of architectural forms are dealt with. And then you may visit the Embroidery Institute and attend demonstrations at the Silk Factory. (B-L-D)
Day 8: Suzhou-Shanghai
Drive to Shanghai after breakfast. Upon arrival, pay a visit to the Jade Buddha Temple where two rare jade statues of Sakyamuni Buddha are treasured. Then visit fascinating Yuyuan Garden, a well-restored Suzhou-style garden, and take a walk through the Old Town filled with antique markets and specialty stores. (B-L-D)
Day 9: Shanghai
Visit the Bund, at the west shore of the Huangpu River, the Oriental Pearl TV Tower can be seen on the opposite side. The splendid row of early 20th century Europe buildings remains the quintessential Shanghai sight. Then take a walk on the Nanjing Road-the famous shopping center in Shanghai. After that you will visit marvelous Shanghai Museum, a leading attraction of the city since it opened in 1994, containing some priceless collections of paintings, porcelains and bronzes. Enjoy a fabulous Acrobatic Show in the evening. (B-L-D)
Day 10: Return from Shanghai
Be transferred to the airport and prepare for boarding on your homebound flight. (B)
