Introductions over dinner with Spanish wine while giving us an opportunity to discuss our tour.
Day 2: La Herradura (Costa del Sol) – Cordoba. On a spectacular mountain road, the first stage of our motorbike tour takes us through Andalusia's fascinating mountains – welcome to Andalusia the motorbiking paradise – and we continue on these winding roads until we reach our destination for today – Cordoba.
Day 3: Cordoba – Sierra Morena – Elvas. Today we let our motorbikes ride free through the virtually unspoilt natural scenery of the Sierra Morena. This border area between Andalusia and Extremadura conveys the impressions that time here has simply stood still. Cork oak forests, a sea of flowers, picturesque lakes and ancient Spanish villages adorn our route to Portugal.
Day 4: Elvas – Alcantara – Manteigas (Serra Estrella). Before we approach the Serra Estrella we turn our motorbikes for a short detour back into Spain where a particular highlight awaits us – crossing the bridge at Alcantara.
Day 5: Manteigas – Serra Estrella – Manteigas. We extend our stay in the Serra Estrella by one day as this mountainous region tempts us with magnificent mountain passes and wonderful panoramic views. This region is home to Portugal's highest mountains with their winding roads serving as a yardstick for any serious biker. In the evening we can relay in a grand Pousada in the middle of the nature reserve.
Day 6: Serra Estrella - Marão. We leave the Serra Estrella nature reserve to explore the next mountainous region of the Serra da Lappa. Scattered rock formations and small mountain lakes create the backdrop to this picturesque landscape. We put the motorbikes through their paces on solitary winding roads, cross the Rio Douro and climb the Serra de Marão.
Day 7: Marão - Porto. We continue our journey in a northerly direction. The landscape is divided into mountains, river valleys and deep gorges as well as lush green pastures and vineyards growing the grapes for the world famous Vino Verde. We spend the evening in Porto, Portugal's secret capital city.
Day 8: Rest day Porto. Porto, famous for its flair and beauty, is a UNESCO world heritage site which offers a great deal to see and experience such as the old town, the cathedral, the bridge Ponte de Dom Luis I, one of the port wine cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia or a trip on Porto's old tramway.
Day 9: Porto – Condeixa a Nova. After reaching the northernmost point of our tour we now head south, passing Porto we again cross the spectacular Rio Douro region. We continue our trip on fabulous country roads through the Sierra Gralheira and the Sierra Caramulo, with vast meadows of flowers in the color combinations of violet, yellow and blue flanking our route.
Day 10: Condeixa a Nova - Lisbon. Today we remain on the panoramic routes providing us with stunning views and perfect road conditions. We head over the Sierra de Lousa where we pass authentic, ancient and partly abandoned mountain villages. On the last few kilometres before reaching Lisbon we are accompanied by the Zezere and Tejo rivers. In order to get a first impression of Lisbon we take a walk through the Alfama quarter.
Day 11: Lisbon – Round trip. We head west, further west and to the most western point of the continent of Europe, the Cabo da Roca where we can gaze out at the vast expanse of the Atlantic Ocean. After this trip we turn our entire attention back to Lisbon with all its amazing places of interest.
Day 12: Lisbon - Alvito. After the hustle and bustle of the city, we head south past Alcácer do Sal, along the Atlantic coast to Cabo des Sinnes. In a charming beach restaurant we can savor delicious fresh fish and seafood before we continue our motorbike tour heading for Alvito. In the castle gardens of the Pousadas in Alvito you could imagine living in the Middle Ages. Here we can also relax in the pool and watch the proud peacocks display their feathers.
Day 13: Alvito – Aracena. Today we ride through the province of Alentejo through cork oak forests, past grain fields and olive trees. The roads lined with eucalyptus trees seem to wind endlessly through the countryside. Just before reaching the Spanish border we visit Monsaraz, considered to be one of the most beautiful towns in Portugal.
Day 14: Aracena – Seville – La Herradura. On the way back to the starting point of our journey we still have enough time to visit Seville, the capital city and heart of Andalusian culture. Seville, the focal point of bullfighting and flamenco, is undoubtedly one of the Spain's most exciting and fascinating cities. Back in La Herradura over a farewell dinner we look back at some of the fantastic impressions of the past weeks.
Day 15: Return journey.
