Sandoval Lake Lodge is located on the high bluffs overlooking Sandoval Lake, within the protected Tambopata Reserve of southeastern Peru. Internationally famous as the site of the world's greatest lowland concentrations of birds and butterflies, Tambopata offers an exciting and unique Amazon experience. Machu Picchu "the lost city" of the Incas is reached by a fascinating train journey from Cusco through the sacred Urubamba Valley.

Highlights: Sandoval Lake in the Tambopata Reserve, Machu Picchu (with extended stay overnight at ruins), Cusco, Inca fortress of Sacsayhuaman, Sacred Valley, Pisac Indian market and Ollantaytambo fortress. City tour of Lima.

Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Upon arrival in Lima, reception and transfer to hotel.

Day 2: Lima-Puerto Maldonado. After early morning breakfast, transfer to the airport to board the domestic flight to Puerto Maldonado. Arrival, reception and transfer to Sandoval Lake Lodge. Full day tour visiting the lake and jungle walks. Accommodations with full board. To reach Sandoval Lake, you boat 25 minutes down the Madre de Dios River from the city of Puerto Maldonado and then walk or ride in our rickshaws for 45 minutes along two miles (3 km) of flat, rain forest trail. Sandoval Lake is considered by rain forest specialists as the best and most attractive lake in the Peruvian rain forest.

Day 3: Sandoval Lake Lodge. Full day tour visiting the lake and jungle walks. Accommodations with full board. The Giant Otter, or "river wolf", hunt for fish in Sandoval Lake for an exciting display of one of the world's rarest and most endangered mammal species. Blue-and-gold and Red-bellied Macaws inhabit the flooded palm forest on the west end of Sandoval Lake. Brown Capuchin, Bolivian Squirrel, Red Howler, Saddle-backed Tamarin, and Night monkeys live in the forests surrounding the lake.

Day 4: Cusco/Sacred Valley of the Incas. After early morning breakfast, transfer to the airport to board the domestic flight to Cusco. Arrival, reception and transfer to hotel. Morning at leisure to adjust to the altitude. Afternoon City tour and visit the nearby ruins of Kenko, Puca-Pucara, Tambomachay and the Inca fortress of Sacsayhuaman. Includes: (B).

Day 5: Full day tour visiting the Pisac Indian market and Ollantaytambo fortress. Lunch included. Overnight at the charming Posada del Inca Hotel located in Yucay. Includes: (B), (L).

Day 6: Machu Picchu. Morning transfer to Ollanta station to board the train to the kilometer 104 where you will walk the last part of the Inca Trail (4-6 hours). You will have a guide and porters to carry the luggage and help you to explore this beautiful area. Arrival at Machu Picchu through the Sun gate. Overnight at Hanaqpacha Inn. Includes: (B), (L).

Day 7: Machu Picchu. Morning visit the Inca citadel followed by lunch. Afternoon return to Cusco by train. Arrival, reception and transfer to hotel. Includes: (B), (L).

Day 8: Cusco-Lima. Transfer to the airport to board the domestic flight to Lima. Arrival, and transfer to selected hotel. City tour and visit the Archaeological Museum. (breakfast, lunch)

Day 9: Lima. Transfer to the airport to take the international flight. Includes: (B).
