The sacred city of Puri is at a distance of 60-km from Bhubaneswar. It comprises of one of the four holy dhamas of Hindus, the other three being Puri, Dwarka, Rameswaram and Badrinath. For the followers of Hinduism the pilgrimage of the temples across India is not complete without making the journey to Puri. The pulsating city is situated on the coast of the Bay of Bengal. Earlier the port city it is said to have sent shiploads of devotees, carrying the messages of Lord Buddha for Java, Sumatra and the Philippines. This fact answers the co-existence of the various maths and monasteries in the city. The visit to many of these will bring peace to your mind and soul.
The visit to the Lord Jagannatha Temple, which is a landmark structure of the city, will be a memorable one. The temple is dedicated to Jagannath i.e. 'Lord of the Universe'. The temple is one of the most sacred pilgrimage destinations in India. The city itself is one of the four holiest places of India and a melting pot of all religious faiths. The temple is the finest specimen of Kalinga temple architecture. Innumerable pilgrims throng the city when the Rath Yatra (chariot festival) takes place in the month of June or July. Bhubaneswar, Puri and Konark, the three temple towns of Orissa make up the glorious golden temple triangle of the Eastern India. The capital of the eastern Indian state of Orissa has many sites worth visiting. Many of the Hindus and the Buddhist flock to the city, a religious center.
Besides the great Hindu temples stand Buddhist shrines in and around the city of Bhubaneswar. The triangle of ancient Buddhist monuments at Lalitgiri, Ratnagiri and Udaigiri at a distance of 90 kilometers from Bhubaneshwar form yet another golden triangle of eastern India. At a distance of 8 kilometers from the city amidst the peaceful and serene environments lies the great Buddhist shrine of Dhauli. The pilgrim spot is renowned for its rock edicts of Ashoks. At the spot after the Kalinga victory in the year 261 BC that Ashoka, the Mauryan emperor adopted non-violence and took to Buddha’s teachings of non-voilence
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival at Bhubaneshwar. Transfer to Hotel.
Day 2: Visit of Temples and Caves at Bhubaneshwar.
Day 3: Drive to Puri enroute visiting Konark Sun Temple, Dhauli Peace Pagoda and Pipli Applique work. Overnight at Puri.
Day 4: Jagannath Darshan in the morning and drive to Gopalpur on Sea. Overnight at Gopalpur.
Day 5: Excursion to Taptapani.
Day 6: Board the Train from Berhampur/Bhubaneshwar for onward connection Bhubaneshwar-Puri-Konark-Gopalpur.
