Kalimpong is a small hill station between Siliguri and Gangtok. The road is one of the most scenic routes in this part of the nation. The swift flowing Teesta River runs by the side of the road adding to the beauty of the scenery. The name, Kalimpong, has three different origins. One, it means the place where the local tribesmen gathered to organize field sports, second, it takes it’s name from the Bhutanese king’s minister’s stronghold and sthirdly, it is named after Kaulim, a fibrous plant found in abundance in this region. Kalimpong has several monasteries and also a Kali temple. The Tibetan Monastery and curio center and Dr Graham's home are important tour stops.
Lava - situated at an altitude of 7200 feet, Lava is famous for its proximity to the Neora Valley National Park and its beautiful view of the Jelep La and Rechi La passes. Lava is about 32 km east of Kalimpong. Oak and fir trees welcome the visitor at Lava. Lava is also known for its leaches. During the rainy season vegetation around the place remains covered by leaches. Loleygaon - the small town is located at a distance of 12 km from Lava at an altitude of 5,500 ft. A spectacular view of the Himalayan snow will take you to a different world. Loleygaon offers panoramic view of the Kanchenjunga. The quite and serene place is still not commercialized by large number of tourist influx. Nearby hilltop Jhandi Dara offers beautiful views at sunrise. Naturebeyond may arrange accommodation for the tourists at both the places in the forest department rest houses.
Jaldapara - Jaldapara is a paradise for bird watchers. It is one of the very few places in India, where the Bengal Florican was sighted. Set out with a binocular and see the majestic flight of horn bill, racket-tailed drongo and paradise flycatcher. See the splendors of sun set beyond the vast grassland of Jaldapara from you Bungalow deck. A thrilling elephant safari is organized in the early morning from Hollong to offer the exquisite beauty of the vast grassland of Jaldapara. The elephant ride is the best possible way to explore the sanctuary with the rare sight of Indian rhinos and Asiatic elephants. The jeep safari inside the sanctuary is another main attraction.
Your Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival at Bagdogra/New Jalpaiguri. Drive to Kalimpong. Overnight at Kalimpong.
Day 2: Visit of Zong Dog Palri Fo-Brang Monastery during prayer time and enjoy beautiful sunrise from Durpin Dara. Visit of Dharmadaya Vihar, Tharpa Choling Monastery and the Thongsa Gumpha. Overnight at Kalimpong.
Day 3: Sights seeing of Kalimpong. Overnight at Kalimpong
Day 4: Drive to Loleygaon en route visiting Lava monastery, Sunrise view point. Overnight in Loleygaon.
Day 5: Excursion to Rishyap a small Lepcha Village and enjoy the 360 degree view of Kanchenjunga. Overnight at Loleygaon.
Day 6: Transfer to Chalsa via Garubathan, evening around the retreat, overnight in Chalsa.
Day 7: Half day sightseeing covering Samsing, Suntelokhola. Rest of the day free. Overnight at Chalsa.
Day 8: Drive to Murti en route Garumara National Park. Overnight at Murti.
Day 9: Excursion to Chapramari Wild life Sanctuary to watch the animals. Overnight at Murti.
Day 10: Drive to Jaldapara Wild Life Sanctuary. Visit to the Leopard rescue center. Overnight at Jaldapara.
Day 11: Early morning Elephant ride at Jaldapara W.L.S, afternoon visit to Phuentsholling (Bhutan Border). Overnight at Jaldapara.
Day 12: After breakfast transfer to Bagdogra/New Jalpaiguri for your onward journey.
