It forms parts of a global bio-diversity 'hotspot', out of forty one listed endangered species of wildlife found in Assam, which includes Golden Langur, Hoolock Gibbon, Pygmy Hog, Hispid Hare, White-Winged Woodduck, Tiger, Clouded leopard, Swamp Deer, Genetic Dolphins etc. Moreover, during season flock of resident and migratory birds make Assam their natural habitat.

Guwahati: Gateway to the seven states of North-east India, Guwahati is nestled in the Brahmaputra valley, surrounded by lush forests and green expanses of paddy fields. Awash with centuries-old temples, the city is the base to visit the wildlife sanctuaries. Guwahati houses the administrative capital of the state of Assam, Dispur, India. Apart from being a destination itself, it is the pivotal point for the tourists exploring the northeastern region of India. In addition to being a place of pilgrimage, Guwahati is the cultural hub and educational nerve center of North Eastern India.

Manas: About 176 kilometers from Guwahati, the world heritage site, Manas National Park lies just in between Kaziranga and Jaldapada. It is one of those few places that has the ability to hold a visitor spellbound, the main reason being the 540 sq. km of diverse topography and rich flora and fauna. The lifeline of the Park, Manas River forms a natural boundary between India and the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan. In the lower stretches of the river basin, small clusters of trees dot vast stretches of sand.

This kind of topography is home to small herds of wild buffaloes and fishing birds that fly screeching over the river in search of prey. Move a little away from the bank and you will enter a thick jungle of broad-leaved trees, where even sunlight fails to make its way to the ground. On the other side of the jungle, majestic herds of elephants wade through swamps and tall elephant grass (although in comparison to the other National Parks, it is very difficult to spot the elephants here). There are nullahs, or streams, hillocks; almost everything that you would wish to see in a National Park situated in the foothills of the Himalayas.

Nameri: Nestled at the foothills of Eastern Himalayas, Nameri National Park covers an area of 200 sq. km. With river Jia Bhoroli bifurcating the park, it is the most scenic of all the national parks of Assam. Its in the eastern border of Assam in the valley and mountainous Arunachal Pradesh, Nameri is home to some of of the endangered species like white winged wood duck, Sloth Bear, Tiger Leopard, Clouded Leopard, Sambar, Gaur, Indian Wild Dog, four varieties of Hornbill and many other winged species. The other reason Nameri is famous for, is the herds of elephants. The park have a high density of elephant population and due to lessening of forest cover, they sometimes invade human inhabited villages, which have attracted the attention of wildlife conservationists worldwide.

Kaziranga: The Kaziranga National Park is the only National Park in the State situated in central Assam with an area of 430 sq. km. It is the home of the great Indian one horned Rhinoceros (Unicorns). The landscape of Kaziranga is of sheer forest, tall elephant grass, rugged reeds, mellow marshes and shallow pools. Kaziranga has a history of its own. Lady Curzon first heard about the Rhinos of Kaziranga from her British tea planter friends and came to Assam in 1904-05. Although she could not see the animal, she spotted hoof prints with three toes and believed that such an animal did exist. On her return, she persuaded lord Curzon to do something to save this animal from total annihilation.
